She is out for floor time and I tot to take some pics of her. She is the biggest and oldest among my chinchillas. She is now almost 4 yrs old. She is fierce to other chins, but okie with humans. Friendly and curious, she is quite bold in exploring. But she doesn't like other chins, hehe, only her son. She cannot tolerate any other chinchillas. She'll snap and shoot pee at them.

ghost> lolz I already stated that this is female...Spider is a male. Slappy is his mother. His father was also a Silver White, so Spider took after his colour instead of Slappy's colour. He is very different from his mum as he is not bold at all. But he is not scared of humans also, as he has been handled since birth. puppy> keke, no problem. I'm sure you'll like them a lot. Their fur very nice and soft. Actually, last year, I intended to sell Slappy. But I didn't in the end, cos I cldn't find a good enough owner. So I kept her with me. Now I'm very glad that I did, cos she's grown even closer to me, and I'll never entertain the idea of selling her now. Keke.

Keke, okie. If ever I must rehome them, I'll let you all know (but God forbid it'll ever happen, cos sure heartbroken one!) Oh, Slappy was bought from Park Chinchilla actually. When I first got her, she was very fierce and hated humans. I only found out why later. But slowly, it took a long time, but in the end, we became friends. She stopped her biting and shooting pee. It took really a long time, almost a year if I'm not wrong. Sometimes she stills nip, last time. But now, she very rarely does. I'm very happy that she has learned to trust pp cos, she was really very aggressive. I admit that in part, it was cos of where I got her from. I only later learned from other chin owners that Park Chinchilla wasn't a very ideal place to buy my chins from. Anyway, that was in the past, and I dun really wanna bring it up again. As long as Slappy and I are happy, that's fine. Keke.

do chins need to be fixed, just like rabbits? do males mount the females the same way as rabbits?

Umm, I've never heard of anyone neutering or spaying their chinchillas. Probably cos chinchillas dun mate often at all. Even in the best conditions, a female chin will only give birth to max 2 litters a year. It's more common to have only 1 litter a year. Each litter has an average of only 2 kits. Very few females give birth to up to 4 kits. So I doubt there is a real need to sterilise them. I'm afraid I've never seen bunnies mate, lolz so I dunno how to compare. I can only say that yes, males do mount females from the back. But it depends on how experienced the male is and how receptive the female is. Actually mating chins can be quite a tricky business cos it can't be forced. And if the female is not receptive, she may not give birth at all, it's quite common. I know of chins who are partners for 2 yrs and have no babies at all. It's really up to the female, to see if she wants to get pregnant and have kits. Of course, giving her the best environment wld be the most encouragement. But it's still not that easy. Professional chinchilla ranchers control a chinchilla's environment alot to promote breeding. Temperature and lighting are 2 ways they do it.

Umm, that's the problem that some chin breeders in Sg face. That their chins give birth and they got no space to keep. However, from what I can see, not many chin lovers do sell their babies. I've seen that what happens is that the owners may upgrade to a bigger cage and still attempt to keep all the babies. This is what a fren of mine did. He kept 2 litters of his chin's babies. They lived in a huge 3 storey cage he made himself. I seriously doubt that chin owners deliberately neuter or spay their chins. I've never heard of anyone doing it on purpose. I've only heard of a female chinchilla being sterilised, but that one was an exception. What happened was that this female was pregnant. She went into labour but had difficulty giving birth. The owner was present and rushed her down to Dr Ling (if I remember correctly). Dr Ling actually performed a caesaerean and what happened is that the babies are siamese twins. Scary right? It actually happened to that chin. The babies were dead from the long labour, and Dr Ling sterilised the female to prevent her from getting pregnant again. After this terrible experience, the owner also didn't mind. Cos she had almost lost her female, so she was just glad to get her female back alive. I heard that Dr Ling requested to keep the babies as she had never seen such a thing before and wanted to study it. This is what my fren told me, she's a member of another pet forum. Umm, as I've said, chins do not breed very ferociously. Really, I've got a few chin frens whose chins dun breed and they often wonder why. Other pp say just have to wait, while some also say, it's true that some chins just dun wan to mate, so they just don't. In such cases, you can't force it, it just won't happen. Actually I was thinking of bringing Slappy to the chalet cos she is more bold, so I hope she won't be stressed out, and I can bring her. I told my bf, he started laughing. He said I'm mad to bring Slappy to a place full of strangers cos she's definitely gonna shoot pee out at everyone once I open the cage. I forgot about that. Hehe, so I guess maybe I can't bring her. She really does that to pp she dunno, like she did to my bf years ago, when he first met her.

i think hor, if i ever keep chin, can only keep 1... 'cause if they give birth, i wont have space to upgrade their cage to keep all the babies... since i got already got so many bunnies with me... i think hor, i'll probably adopt 1 if any. and best is tamed and train 1... me asking for the moon...
