Is it this one? MAY 10, 2004 MON Having a pet is a lifelong commitment I AM writing this with a heavy heart. On April 16, I was walking my dog when a brown rabbit suddenly leapt out from a bush. I was quite taken aback and looked around for the owner but no one was in sight. I tried to catch the rabbit with one hand because my other hand was busy restraining my terrier from attacking it. As it was difficult to catch the rabbit with one hand, I took my dog home and returned with a box to hold it. However, it kept fidgeting and hiding in the bush. I then noticed a shopping bag on the grass 'breathing'. On a closer look, I discovered two full-grown rabbits inside. Then a movement in the bush caught my attention. Another black rabbit was in the bush with the brown rabbit. Four abandoned rabbits left to fend for themselves in the heat with no water and exposed to danger all around. What made my stomach turn was the sight of the two rabbits in the plastic bag. Their ears were badly torn and infested with scabies. I took them home first as I was worried they would get heatstroke. At home, they finished all the water I gave them and I had to refill the dish twice. On the advice of the House Rabbit Society (www.hrss.net), I called the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) which came to collect them. One selfish act by an irresponsible owner almost cost four rabbits their lives. I shudder to think of the fate that awaited the other rabbits. What kind of moral values are we implanting in the minds of our young - that precious lives should be treated like dirt? Having a pet is a lifelong commitment. It's not just one day or one week but the entire lifespan of the pet, which can be up to 15 years. The moment you take a pet home, it is deemed you have assumed responsibility for all aspects of its care. If your pet is sick, take it to the vet and don't expect the illness to go away without treatment. If you can't keep your pet, try to find it a new home or take it to the SPCA. Please don't abandon your pet: It won't survive because domesticated pets can't fend for themselves in the wild. It will die of starvation or become food for other wild animals. FOONG ZEE KIN

Yes. This is the one. Sad to say, the day after this article was published, a similar case happened near my friend's place. A bunny with scabies was folded in half (nose touch toe) and cruelly squeezed into a small pasar plastic bag. The auntie who wanted to dumped the bunny, got no gut to do so and asked a school boy to dumped it for her at a park across the road. The boy didn't know it was a rabbit inside the plastic, took over it and got a shock. He can't bare to do so but then the auntie already went off. This boy tried to bring the bunny to his classmate's home nearby and met my friend. My friend out of pity took in the bunny as the boys don't know what to do. The bunny got very bad scabies till the nose got extra piece of "meat" growing on it. Looks like a pinochio. His toes were all sore and couldn't walk much. My friend has brought him to the vet for the 1st jab of ivomec. What has the world become.

Scabies....any home-made medicine or anything that that can jus buy off the shelve that could REALLY cure scabies?? No. For scabies treatment, need to bring to vet for 3 shots of ivomec jab. 3 jabs at 2 weeks interval. Very effective. On top of that, need to disinfect the pet's living quarter as well as the house to prevent recurrence. Cos mites can stay on wood, furniture etc and can reinfect a recovered pet. Ppl who don't love their pet will refuse to seek medical treatment. They are likely to think that buying a new bunny is cheaper than seeking vet treatment. Thus the easiest way out is to throw the bunny away.

It's not that expensive. But I don't remember the exact fee. My friend spent $45 that day. $31 consultation, another $14 for jab and oral medication for fungal infection. The follow up jab should be ard $6? Anyone can update this?
Scabies is caused by sarcoptic mites. This mite will burrow under the skin of the animals and cause the skin to itch and have mange. It is different from furmites.
As to how our pet can have it. Well, it could be that we pick them up on grass outside. Mites can jump onto our clothes, socks and we can pass it to our pets without knowing. If you have handled a pet with mites, you have to wash your hands, change your clothe before touching your healthy pet.

Perhaps can start a topic on the regular sickness of bunnies? Hmm....think i'll continue to look around...i'm thinking of a "solution" to all this....thinking....thinking.... Heaven will open eyes & retribution will befall on the evil-doer....& when bad things happens to humans that time,we have the tendency to have this type of thoughts that why Heaven is treating me that way....but we human forgot about the bad things we have done to the "beings" around us....they forgot....they really forgot....& we start blaming....blaming on why Bad Things always befall on us....they ask "WHY?"....but only YOU & heaven knows.... Do "good" always & refrain from all your cruel & evil ways....we may not receive "good" when we do good....but humans will DEFINITELY receive "bad" when they do "bad"....history has told us many such stories....learn from it....& pray....& may peace be with u....
