I think this is the long awaited event for most sg chin owners. I know quite a few chin pp going, but I myself can't go!! Argh! So unhappy and frustrated. Cos my bf and I are going Comex instead *miserable*. I heard that other chin owners will be bringing their chins for a "meet & greet" session to socialise. Darn darn darn! Anyway, I put it up here, cos I know there are other chin owners and lovers here. If you all go, pls take pics and show me! I want to see the chins on display! Here are the details: Chinchilla-Pet Kingdom Exhibition 6-13 Sept 2003 @ forum the shopping mall Join us at our exciting exotic Chinchillas exhibition and watch Billy the chin in action Colour my pet Contest: Cat A: 6 & 14 sept (4-16 yrs) Cat B : 7 & 13 sept (7 -11) Time : 2pm Show time Billy the chin show - 6 & 13 Sept (3pm) Chinchilla Talk by Professional Trainer - 6 , 7 &13 sept (4.15pm) My pet & Me Contest : Flaunt your talent creativity alongside with your pet and stand to win Prizes worth up to $2000! Preview : 7 Sept 3pm .Finals :14 Sept , 3pm Registration forms are avail at Infomation counter at forum shopping mall Counter on L2 I heard that there might be a new breed or colour of chinchilla being shown. Darn darn darn! I can't go on Sat, which is the day most other chin pp are going. And next week is my common tests, how to go? Argh!! Banging my head against the wall in frustration. I feel so sad... Cry already la... I actually begged my bf cos I want to go. But I already promised him I'll go Comex with him this Sat. Sure see the exhibition whole day one, then I can't go Forum. He said cannot, we got no time. Wa...cry la. I keep telling him, he say really no time.

Oh yes, I dunno what the new breed or colour might be, but I've already seen the dwarf chin in Sg. A pet shop brought it in. Last yr, I actually wanted to import 1 pair myself, from US. Total is less than $1000, but almost la. Then the lady I wanted to buy from reminded me that they are more susceptible to heat stroke than normal chins, so if I dun quarantine them properly and let them adapt to the weather in Sg, over a time, then they'll die. So I immediately dropped the idea.
Now, a pet shop has brought it in, Pet Dynasty in Ang Mo Kio. My friend bought a female grey from them. She's quite cute, just like any other chin, just very small. She is 5 mths old now, but is the size of a 3 mth old normal chin. Definitely a dwarf cos she hasn't grown much at all. I heard there are some male dwarves for sale. My friend asked me to buy, but I found them expensive. Just to tell you all. Can go check it out.
I'm not sure if Pet Kingdom gonna show dwarf chins, but possibly. They are too slow in importing them anyway. But truthfully, I like normal chins better. All big and fat, nicer to hug, hahaha...

Dwarf chinchillas look exactly the same as the normal chin, just that they are smaller in size. They dun exceed a certain weight, no matter how much you feed them. Their character and colours are the same as normal chins. But I know that for now, dwarf chins dun have many colours. I've seen standard greys and whites, but yet to see any violets, ebonies, black velvets or beiges. I'm quite sure that in future, more colours will emerge, cos they're really the same as a normal chin, just that they have the dwarf gene, so they can't grow big.
They aren't cheap that's for sure, and in my general opinion, need slightly more care than the normal chin. Cos normal chins are already 'fragile' pets, you can't play with them roughly. More so with dwarves, since they are smaller. My friend bought her standard grey female dwarf for $500 plus. Quite expensive in my opinion.
Plus, it really needs more care lor. Cos when she brought it home, it was bullied by her normal chin when introduced. After a month of living as neighbours, the dwarf had gotten attacked a few times during floortime. It actually became depressed and stopped eating. Luckily, my friend watches her very closely, and immediately tried ways to increase her appetite and cheer her up.
Now, it's slightly better. But I feel that if you dun spend really lots of time observing the chin and its habits, a bit difficult to keep dwarf chins as a beginner. Cos they'll deteoriate faster than normal chins cos of their smaller size.

I also ask one of the lady from Pet Kingdom, she said that they have never heard of Dwarf chins and dwarf chins won't be coming into Pet Kingdom in the near future. She said that it could be that the siblings mate together resulting in dwarf chins.
