YEAh!!! I can finally make full use of this thread. I have so many questions in mind. Pls help me answer ALL if possible. I really blur leh!
1) I feed around 2 handful of pellets twice a day in the morning and evening. Do I have to throw away the excess pellets leftover in the morning when I refill the bowl at night?
2) Can I leave the hay in the cage for a day? Read that I am suppose to supply fresh hay every few hours. Is that necessary?
3) Pellets can be kept at most 1 and a half mth only ar? What if i buy 2 packets at a go, but dun open the packet, can I keep it longer?
4) My bunny is now relying on a bowl to drink water cos we haven't get her any bottles. According to my bf, she drinks very little leh. I think very little also... like hamsters liddat.
5) She eats ALOT of hay, but little bit of pellets. Only eat pellets when hay is not available. Or only eat pellets when we hand feed her. Is this normal? Or did I feed her too much pellets? 2 handful per time or maybe more.... cos the auntie said 'fill abit near to half a bowl' mah... so I did as what she told me.
6) My bunny has very stained and dirty undercoat and feets. Can I bathe him? But I dunno how to bathe leh... scared also... was told to use damp towel to clean but those stain were there for so long liaoz, can get rid meh? Any ways to get rid of the stain?
7) Is there anyway to determine her age?
8) Any toys to recommend for my bunny? My bf is not home sometime so will most prob cage her up. Afraid that she will feel lonely... will getting toys help? Wonder if she will play also.
9) Will hay and pellets lao hong anot? I didn't tie the packets leh. Just leave it open liddat...

Umm, I try and answer what I can, but am not an expert.
I think it's possible that you might be feeding too much pellets since your bunny can't finish. Eating unlimited hay is healthy for your bunny, so dun worry abt that.
I bought rabbit toys to give my Bunbun. Got her a willow ring and willow ball to play with.
Try to keep your pellets in an air tight container to maintain freshness. Hay shld be aired often. If put in an enclosed box, hay can get moldy, if the place is damp.

Wah liew... thanks for informing me! Me gonna get my bf to tie up the packet of pellets liaoz. He keeps the food in aircon room leh... think will be quite damp also right? But since u mentioned that the hay should be aired, then no need to tie up the packet of hay lor. But my bf keeps all his rabbit food in an aircon room... will that actually make the area damp?

Is his air con on 24/7? Is the air con dry? Cos I find my air con is dry, the room won't feel humid or damp. But when I switch off the air con in the morning, then condensation will collect as the room cools, then will get damp. But if the air con is on again in the night, then my room will be dry again. You understand? Or you can also like, keep the hay closed 12 hours, then leave it open 12 hours. Just dun keep it closed all the time. But when leaving it open, must also be careful not to let it get dirty or let insects crawl in.
For me, I keep my hay in a plastic, non air tight container. Then I'll air it for 1 hour in the evening. Then I'll close it up again. Also, keep hay away from direct sunlight cos it'll get bleached and the nutrients destroyed. That's what happened to my alfalfa hay.

His aircon is not turned on 24/7. Also half a day liddat. But i think he will be extremely lazy to do so many things. Perhaps will ask him to leave the hay in a non aircon room which he isn't using.
Btw, should the hay be disposed off every few hours or everyday? Or can i just leave the leftover hay in her cage forever?
The pellets gonna change twice a day or just leave the leftovers for the whole day?

Wah.... to many things to answer liao. I dunno where to start. I am giving the following link to HRS site. It has lots of useful information you need. www.rabbit.org/faq/index.html 1) I feed around 2 handful of pellets twice a day in the morning and evening. Do I have to throw away the excess pellets leftover in the morning when I refill the bowl at night? How much to feed depends on the bunny's age. If below 6 mths, unlimited pellets. Abv 6 mths, abt 2 table s-p-o-o-n (our chinese soup s-p-o-o-n) of pellets in the morning and a mixed of 3 veggies in evening. Unlimited hay thru out the day. If there are a lot of leftover, you are feeding too much. But could also mean your bunny is not eating. Do observe that.2) Can I leave the hay in the cage for a day? Read that I am suppose to supply fresh hay every few hours. Is that necessary? Yes you can. As long as the hay is not soiled by urine. And top up more hay when it is running low. You can throw away the remaining on the next morning and replenish new one.3) Pellets can be kept at most 1 and a half mth only ar? What if i buy 2 packets at a go, but dun open the packet, can I keep it longer? If the new packet is not open, you can keep till its expiry date. Do store in cool dry place4) My bunny is now relying on a bowl to drink water cos we haven't get her any bottles. According to my bf, she drinks very little leh. I think very little also... like hamsters liddat. Some bunny drink alot some don't. Just leave the water there5) She eats ALOT of hay, but little bit of pellets. Only eat pellets when hay is not available. Or only eat pellets when we hand feed her. Is this normal? Or did I feed her too much pellets? 2 handful per time or maybe more.... cos the auntie said 'fill abit near to half a bowl' mah... so I did as what she told me. Its a good sign that this bunny like hay. Full of fibre that she needs. If she is not eating much pellets, then you have to give her more veggies to supplement the nutrition that she need. Do read up HRS or HRSS web for the recommended list of veggies to feed. 6) My bunny has very stained and dirty undercoat and feets. Can I bathe him? But I dunno how to bathe leh... scared also... was told to use damp towel to clean but those stain were there for so long liaoz, can get rid meh? Any ways to get rid of the stain? If you are not very confidence in handling bathing, I suggest you don't do it now. Stain will go off after sometime. Maybe 2-3 mths later. Cos bunny will molt & new fur will grow, by then all these stained will be gone. Another way is to trim off the stain fur and let the new one grow.7) Is there anyway to determine her age? Hard to determine. But can estimate from its size and nails8) Any toys to recommend for my bunny? My bf is not home sometime so will most prob cage her up. Afraid that she will feel lonely... will getting toys help? Wonder if she will play also. Used toilet rolls is a good and free toy for bunny. Bunnies don't really play with toy lah. But they do like to shred papers and mats. Or like what clover suggest, get willow rings and balls. Best to let your bunny out for excise for at least one hr a day. Cage up whole day, very bored9) Will hay and pellets lao hong anot? I didn't tie the packets leh. Just leave it open liddat... Pellets will lao hong if din keep in airtight box. Best if u can keep it in fridge. Hay need air. so no need to tie. But keep away from sunlight and moisture.

Hi Cottontail, u are doing a good job in answering all my questions what... Thank you so much leh! Finally solved all my doubts though i still have more questions! 1) We are intending to feed the bunny with half an apple everyday. Issit too much? He is a grown up fellow liaoz lor. Very big size. 2) We are feeding him only with XiaoBai Cai now... cos can't find anything much in the NTUC we went to earlier. Since it was mentioned that need 3 types of vege... issit ok to get something like XiaoBaiCai, Cai Xin, Kai Lan? All leafy vege together leh? Can anot huh? My bf lets the bunny out to run a few hrs everyday. Added a collar on the bunny today and she didn't resist. Looks much nicer with a collar. HAHAHAH!!! Btw, I also realised that she doesn't look like a local bunny... perhaps she really isn't! Maybe will go online to look for more breeds then determine what kind she is. I forgot to bring digi cam today! ARGH! Can't show u people! Thanks so much Cottontail. U really clarify my doubts. Since u mentioned feed 2 tablesthingy of pellets, I think i am feeding too much. I fed the bun 1 handful in the morning and another handful in the evening. But she eats ALOT --- hay, pellets, vege and fruit. Everything she also like now leh! And her pellets also finish up fast according to my bf. I see her eating almost every half hour leh... kept eating one. HAHAH!!! I feel more relieved thinking that her stained fur will drop and new ones will grow. Since it will grow hor, I'd most probably cut off her matted fur. AIYAH! Forgot to check whether she is male or female... i am down with a flu... dun dare to touch her much. I bought her a play ball today and brought her a toilet roll too. I think she prefers the toilet roll. Kekeke... will get her toddlers' toys too.

Hi highheels,
You are most welcome. I am certainly glad to answer anything you would to know regarding bunny issue. More especially you're helping this unfortunate bunny.
Hmm... I confess I don't give so much fruits to my bun. Not everyday for sure. If you intend to give everyday, then half of 1/8 portion will do.
Most local veggies are ok. Xiao bai cai, cai sim, local celery, parsley, celery (stalk kind), broccoli stem, romaine lettuce, basil leaves, mint leaves, carrots....etc. These are the list I give to my bunny.
Kai Lan, spinach, kang kong to be fed sparingly. High in either oxalates or goitrogens and may be toxic in accumulated quantities over a period of time.
NO Cabbage and local lettuce. These cause wind in the stomach.
Add one vegetable to the diet at a time. Eliminate if it causes soft stools or diarrhea.
Haha.... Starry is eating more pellets now huh. i guess she has overcome her fear and stress already. Do give high fibre pellets (timothy base) as you mentioned in the other thread that she has yellowish milky urine. It is an indication that her diet is high in calcium or protein. Reducing pellets and increase hay would solve this problem.

Think I better ask my bf to feed little apples and he consume them all lor. Me so scared of feeding the wrong thing. Ok I will most prob try celery or local celery the next time. Which means... currently feeding xiao bai cai... the next round will feed xiao bai cai and celery. Bubblez, I am feeding Burgess Supa lor. HAHAHAHHA!!! Also feeding her with Oxbow Timothy Hay. Think will ask my bf to reduce the amount of pellets at the moment since her urine is milky colour. Btw, I got her a bottle liaoz... I think the brand is Superpets one.

Ok I will most prob try celery or local celery the next time. Which means... currently feeding xiao bai cai... the next round will feed xiao bai cai and celery. Yes. something like dat. Introduce a new veggie each time. If the bunny got diahrroea, then you will know which veggie cause the problem. But most rabbits are ok with the veggies I listed. Btw, forgot to include in the previous post, NO iceberg lettuce also hor. Just remember the only lettuce you can feed to a bunny is romaine lettuce (the type we use for ceasar salad).

high heels > 'cause only certain types of lettuce can be fed to bunnies... for me, i usu dun get lettuce. just in case i fed the wrong type. if u know and very sure that the lettuce u got is romaine lettuce, u can feed that. usu giant will state what lettuce it is. but in those wet market, i dun really trust those sellers. if can see the diff 1 hor, then ok lah. me not very sure about lettuce. so very scared feed wrong 1. if kena diarrhoea hor, very cham 'cause it'll be very smelly and will stain her fur, very diffi to remove the stain.
