another common illness... bunnies's cages with wired based flooring (not flat surface) are more prone to get it. There are many predisposing factors, including: 1. Poor hygiene and damp bedding 2. Rex coats - less fur to protect the hock 3. Long nails - throw too much weight onto the heel 4. Obesity - increases the pressure on the foot 5. Immobility 6. Unsuitably flooring 7. Large breeds 8. Poor physical confirmation Hocks are the underside of a rabbit's paw, rabbits who live in cages with wire floors often develop sore hocks. This condition is typified by red, swollen skin on the hind legs with accompanying hairloss. A veterinarian will provide an antibiotic ointment for treatment and will recommend a change in cage flooring. I wonder if sore hocks lead to "limping". I noticed my Lop Lop was limping on 3 legs yesterday. And either she's afraid or painful, she din not move much during floor time except to get on some floor cloth. I'm not sure if it's due to the bathmat flooring that I've provided for her and her children or is it space constraint that lead to lack of exercise.....resulting in the "limping" effect??
Any pointers? Is it serious business here??

Limping?? Better check if she has a bone fracture. Or leg cramp. Does your bunny has sore hock? If she has serious infected sore hock, then possibly he limb due to pain when contacting the floor. Otherwise, I would think could be due to other problem. Does she still limb today? Does she show sign of pain if you touch her leg? If she is better bring her to the vet. Sometime back my friend's bunny limb too. She hopped on 3 legs and made my friend worried like hell. But later on the bunny was alright, so we deduce it is likely to be a leg cramp. My dog sometime has this leg cramp problem too if she walk too much.

tuffy_buff > do what cottontail said... maybe it has something to do with the leg bone... hopefully just cramp. then u massage a bit... monitor a while... see how... sore hocks can cause limping too but provided really very painful. if not, they'll be rather bo chap about it 1.
did ur bun leap from very high level recently? better be careful. if kena fracture hor, then cham. just like kpo... had to cast his feet for a month.

Wah.....I dun know how to see if it's leg cramp or not leh......I think I'll check if I can make an appointment with Dr Ling tml......if not, I rush down to Animal Clinic liao to see Dr Lee or "try" Dr Hsu........
Last time, I had a lionhead female limping after she was bitten by one nasty GP of mine. After that, "some" vet at Animal Clinic did an X-ray for the poor bunny, cldnt find anything wrong, gave 2 jabs and finally, the bunny died the next day........wonder if it's mercy killing or poor skills...........

I regret to say that I've not brought her down to the vet yet.......
cottontail> LEG CRAMP ONLY A FEW HOURS AH?? haiyoh........I took her out immediately to check......but this bunny is rather timid, even during playtime, she oso doesnt move much, merely walk a little kind......I'm still monitoring her situation.........she can move abt on her two hind legs, can stand on 2 legs, but when she freezes, the "cramped" leg seems a bit awkward......and I'm not sure if it's becos I'm sensitive and see things.............
Been so busy lately.....haiz...........

charmie > ur bunny's sore hocks become abscess?! that means that's very serious. aiyo... so sad... u must be very upset. which vet did u go? maybe the vet not experienced leh. sometimes depends on the bunny himself 1. of course also depends on the seriousness of the sore hocks and living condition also.

went to the vet at mt pleasant hospital.. after her death, i read up more and realized that i cld have done many more to prevent the sore hocks from worsening.. like bringing her to the vet who knows more abt rabbits and changing her cage to the type with plastic bottom.. her cage was the metal grills one, and she was rather fat so i guessed it added pressure to her feet.. made it worse...
yah.. i was really very sad... she died in her cage two hrs after i brought her home.. and i am very angry with myself coz i wasn't with her when she died...

that time, the vet (not dr ling, mt pleasant vet) gave me a blue antibacterial wash and a cream to apply.. i am not too sure abt the cream u have..
but i guess try to make ur bunny as comfy as possible.. give him so towels to lessen the pressure on the feet?
