Hey! i have some questions to ask about bunnies. well you see, i bough a local rabbit at pet's safari on the 1st jan 2004. on the 2nd day it died for no apparant reason. i went back to safari and they gave me a replacement rabbit. this time, after jsut 3 days, the rabbit contracted diarehha and just died after 12 hrs. may i know what is the cause of this?? i asked the pet shop near my house and they said that the rabbits i bought might not be healthy. is this the case??
i followed the pet's personal advice. feed them hay on the 1st day and then start them on pellets on the 2nd.
1 last quest: is it possible for me to adopt 1 rabbit from this forum? it is just too expensive for me to buy some more from pets safari and i had also recently just bought the cage and all that. Preferably the local rabbits from Ghost?? But i am afraid that he might not allow me as in the 2 casses of the rabbits that i bought but died just 2-3 days after...??
please let me know ! thanks

May I asked how old is the bunnies that you bought from Pet Safari ?? Did you feed them fresh vegies ?? Maybe you want to stated more in detail the food that you fed, i.e. what type of hay & pellets etc...drinking water..... So that those experienced moderators can answer your queries...

Ok,the person who adopt those bunnies from me....is only a 8 year old girl has no experience in bunnies too....& like what u experience, her dad bought her a bunny before & 2 days later, the bun died for no apparent reason....& i actually conclude base on the facts & description her parents gave me....the bun is very very young.....haiz....& the girl cried becos the bun died.....so,i'm in turn giving her a almost 6 month old bunnies instead....try out her diet, planned the bun's future, making sure her parents follows it before i allowed the buns to be rehomed to her place again.... If u wish to adopted the bunny,u'll need to wait for those upcoming bunnies that my friends has,to be fully weaned 1st....i mean if u don't mind the wait....& of course,as usual....i've to let those who adopt the animals i'm rehoming that those animals have all been seriously CURSED.....cursing the new owners who do not give em a good home,ill-treating them,& abandoned em....so once again....tho i believe u are a true-animal lover yourself but still, pls consider carefully before trying to adopt any animals from me..... Do let me know again.....

But i am afraid that he might not allow me as in the 2 casses of the rabbits that i bought but died just 2-3 days after...?? please let me know ! thanks gosh.so sad...i hope u read up before u decided to get a bunny.. i hate to slam any pet shop but if im not wrong,u got the bunnies from Sam Yick in pet safari(well, not too hard a guess since they are the only ones sellin bunnies there..) and if u been readin up.its a bad place to get bunnies. or any other animals for that matter. they are using corn cobs(dun know if they have since changed) and we all know that is bad for small animals. they also tend to mark up their prices so i dun know why u got the bunnies from them loh. tho i do know how temptin it is when u see those cute furry bunnies there.. take it as a lesson learnt.they will change the bunny for u claiming that its stress that caused the bunny to die...they will never do a refund cos these things happen too much and the only reason why it happens so often(all cos of stress?oh pls) is cos of the unhealthy conditions they are in. for the first bunny,it MIGHT really b stress.. for the second....diahorroa is usu caused by unsuitable diet n change in environment.it can b cured provided it was discovered early n treated fast by a vet.diahorroa is one of the most threatening diseases for bunnies but can b totally prevented n cured. in this case,if u were sure it never had diahorroa before and it died within 12 hours...prob means a bad parasite infestation.. when that happens.they stop eating and drinking... when u first get a bunny,it is important that u give both the hay n pellets( if u're planning to change brands of pellets,do it gradually),water n leave the bunny alone for the day n night..let it get used to the new environment before u handle it. within few hours the bunny should hav started to eat a bit n groom itself....resist the temptation to handle the bunny too soon. oh another thing is.....its healthier to feed bunnies plain pellets (those without treats n all kinds of nonsense in it) and there are a few reputable brands, there're lots of threads here on bunny food n toilet training etc so im sure u can refer to those. i know that sam yick always recommend pple to buy bunny food from Browns which i find super unhealthy.. the hay they sell is usu very brown n smells bad too. try getting supplies form other better brands n u can see the difference in ur bunny another thing...bunnies can live for 8-12 years, are u sure u are ready for the commitment? if its jus cos of the cage that u wan another bunny,i advise u to think carefully..u can always sell off the cage now.. but once u get another bunny,u will hav to take care of its well being till it passes away years later hope i've helped....if u hav any other questions PLEASE ask....we will gladly help if we can.

i think we mention b4 that pet safari bunnies are known to be sick 1. and bunnies from s@m y*ck. i dunno if there's any improvements but i doubt so. actually cannot really blame totally on pet shop. just that the supplier dun care much about bunnies' welfare and health 1. i cant say much. i'm still praying that there's some improvement. looks like none so far.

i not too sure of the age but then the guy who sold it to me told me that it is 3 months of age. But the thing is that when i was about to go home, i met my teacher at pet's lover. she is an experienced bunny owner and it is like when she saw teh bunny, she say it looks like only 1 month old.. so i am not too sure of the age.. No i did not feed them any vegetable. I only fed them timothy hay and on the 2nd day pellets. these pellets are for young growing up bunnies below 30 weeks. May I asked how old is the bunnies that you bought from Pet Safari ?? Did you feed them fresh vegies ?? Maybe you want to stated more in detail the food that you fed, i.e. what type of hay & pellets etc...drinking water..... So that those experienced moderators can answer your queries...

My brother had taken care of bunnies before for about 5 years before giving it away to neighbours due to moving house... this was about 6 years ago when he is 12 years old. .. So its is not like i have no experience in it... this is the reason why i had an arguement with the pet safari people as they told me it was due to stress... i was surprised as this does not usually happen... afterall my cousins who had bought rabbits and rear them before had also grown up healthy and i never had an case of the rabbits dying just 2 days after i buy them... Hmm, i don't mind the wait. If you don't mind too, can you help me hold on to 1?? Any gender is fine with me... actually i prefer you to hold on to them till they are ready to leave the mother as this will usually mean they are strong enough and not too prone to illness. I mean i do not want the rabbit to die on me as they are too young.. i hope that you get what i mean..i do not mind the curse as it will not fall down to that... Ok,the person who adopt those bunnies from me....is only a 8 year old girl has no experience in bunnies too....& like what u experience, her dad bought her a bunny before & 2 days later, the bun died for no apparent reason....& i actually conclude base on the facts & description her parents gave me....the bun is very very young.....haiz....& the girl cried becos the bun died.....so,i'm in turn giving her a almost 6 month old bunnies instead....try out her diet, planned the bun's future, making sure her parents follows it before i allowed the buns to be rehomed to her place again.... they will change the bunny for u claiming that its stress that caused the bunny to die...they will never do a refund cos these things happen too much and the only reason why it happens so often(all cos of stress?oh pls) is cos of the unhealthy conditions they are in. I would encourage those who have encountered such problem (pet died when bought home) to report such cases to AVA. If there are many of such cases happening in the same pet shops, I think would steer AVA to investigate the petshop and find out the cause. In conclusion, I will still want to encourage those who are intested to own a small animal, TO ADOPT INSTEAD OF BUYING ONE FROM THE PET SHOP____________________ The Straits Times JAN 13, 2004 2,059 SMALL PETS LEFT AT SPCA
THE Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is calling for a restriction on the sale of small animals like rabbits and hamsters, because of the growing number of such creatures being left on its premises.
Last year, 2,059 small animals were taken in by the SPCA, 500 more than 2002.
If dogs and cats are included, the SPCA received about 12,300 unwanted animals.
Less than 10 per cent were adopted.
The rest were put down.
'That's a tragic statistic,' SPCA executive officer Deirdre Moss told The Straits Times yesterday.
She suggested that the authorities step in to curb the growing trend of abandoning animals.
They could restrict the number of pets on sale.
SPCA conducts public education on owning pets through various channels, including going to schools to talk about it and on its website, www.spca.org.sg

yes you have guessed it right I got them from sam yick. actually i also know that there are alot of bad feedback of this place from people here and that they marked up their prices from a breeder i got my robos from. But i had decided to buy from them as the bunny looked healthy to me and i thought that there was no harm. it was like it hopping around actively and eating. They only do exchange once and the 2nd rabbit also died a few days after only. I had got into an arguement with them as i wanted a refund but since they said they can only do exchange its like i agreed thinking that it is ok... but nevertheless unexpectly the rabbit got diarehha and died... They had told me that a lot of people had bought from me and its like most of them came back saying that the rabbits died adn they told me that it all boils down to luck... as local rabbits are weaker and more prone to virus and diseases... I do not want to get another rabbit just because of the cage... it is caused that some of my hamsters had died of old age and its like me and my brother both wanted to take up the hobby of rearing a rabbit again as we had settled into our new house long ago. And it's like we both likes rabbit but because of the moving house thingy 6 years ago we gave it up... gosh.so sad...i hope u read up before u decided to get a bunny.. i hate to slam any pet shop but if im not wrong,u got the bunnies from Sam Yick in pet safari(well, not too hard a guess since they are the only ones sellin bunnies there..) and if u been readin up.its a bad place to get bunnies. or any other animals for that matter. they are using corn cobs(dun know if they have since changed) and we all know that is bad for small animals. they also tend to mark up their prices so i dun know why u got the bunnies from them loh. tho i do know how temptin it is when u see those cute furry bunnies there.. take it as a lesson learnt.they will change the bunny for u claiming that its stress that caused the bunny to die...they will never do a refund cos these things happen too much and the only reason why it happens so often(all cos of stress?oh pls) is cos of the unhealthy conditions they are in. for the first bunny,it MIGHT really b stress.. for the second....diahorroa is usu caused by unsuitable diet n change in environment.it can b cured provided it was discovered early n treated fast by a vet.diahorroa is one of the most threatening diseases for bunnies but can b totally prevented n cured. in this case,if u were sure it never had diahorroa before and it died within 12 hours...prob means a bad parasite infestation.. when that happens.they stop eating and drinking... when u first get a bunny,it is important that u give both the hay n pellets( if u're planning to change brands of pellets,do it gradually),water n leave the bunny alone for the day n night..let it get used to the new environment before u handle it. within few hours the bunny should hav started to eat a bit n groom itself....resist the temptation to handle the bunny too soon. oh another thing is.....its healthier to feed bunnies plain pellets (those without treats n all kinds of nonsense in it) and there are a few reputable brands, there're lots of threads here on bunny food n toilet training etc so im sure u can refer to those. i know that sam yick always recommend pple to buy bunny food from Browns which i find super unhealthy.. the hay they sell is usu very brown n smells bad too. try getting supplies form other better brands n u can see the difference in ur bunny another thing...bunnies can live for 8-12 years, are u sure u are ready for the commitment? if its jus cos of the cage that u wan another bunny,i advise u to think carefully..u can always sell off the cage now.. but once u get another bunny,u will hav to take care of its well being till it passes away years later hope i've helped....if u hav any other questions PLEASE ask....we will gladly help if we can.

Why not try to adopt from SPCA or HRSS, when you adopt a rabbit from them, you are actually helping two bunnies - the one you take home, and the one that takes the newly opened space at the shelter.
If you are really keen, I have some for adoption too. BUT as same as Ghost, mine are ALL been seriously CURSED - to the new owner !!

hi wan2bet sorry to hear abt your bad experience with the pet safari. nevertheless, i'm glad to hear u decide to adopt instead of buying. if u decide to adopt, u are actually saving two buns as the free space will be ready for another bun we rescued. you can find alot more rabbit info at this link: www.hrss.net and can view hrss's adoptables here: www.hrss.net/adopt/adpt_rabbits.htmlto the contrary, it's actually the local buns that are more hardy than the imported ones. whether it's local or imported buns, it doesn't matter cos they are cute in their own unique way.

In conclusion, I will still want to encourage those who are intested to own a small animal, TO ADOPT INSTEAD OF BUYING ONE FROM THE PET SHOPYes,i always encourage pple in this forum & my friends to adopt & not go & pay $ for the animals....& this forum got many nice cute small animals for adoption too.....notice if a member do not intro himself/herself....& if he/she try to adopt or rehome an animal in this forum,a notice will be given to the thread....within 24hours,if still no intro...the thread will either be taken down or locked....don't ask me why,i've too many reasons for doing that liao.... Hmm, i don't mind the wait. If you don't mind too, can you help me hold on to 1?? Sure,i'll be rehoming 2 of the bunnies later in the evening, the adults one....so when i see the owner of the bunnies,i'll ask her to reserve 1 for u.....still i wish to remind u that the Curse is really serious....& i'm not joking....so if are confident, then it's fine....I'll provide some of the bunny's pellets & hay to u too....hope u can take good care of the bunny.....

if u can adopt then its a good idea loh..anything else, any questions u hav after that can always ask us here and u will get replies fast! wish u luck this time round..im sure u would make a good owner cos can see u're sincere n makin an effort from the way u are replying everyone of us. if u stil hav the receipt then perhaps u can make a report to CASE or to AVA.saying that the bunnies are underage.if that is the case(the bunnies they sell are underage),when u see them sellin those bunnies, make a report to AVA immediately. local bunnies are not more prone to diseases.i think its THEIR bunnies that are more prone to diseases. adopting is good cos u can b sure the bunnies are healthier than those u can get at any pet shop

hmm i have heard from this forum before that if you were to adopt from them, your whole family will then have to go down to the spca with you? anyway, it is something like my mum is reluctant to adopt from there as she felt that these animals some will carry some sort of disease with them... lol i dont know where she got that idea from Why not try to adopt from SPCA or HRSS, when you adopt a rabbit from them, you are actually helping two bunnies - the one you take home, and the one that takes the newly opened space at the shelter.
