As some of you have read in my intro, my chin is very very good in either escaping or chewing his cages ( had spolit 4 cages ). I have no choice but to put him in a 3 feet glass tank and the top is covered by wire mesh. However, I have noticed that his fur on one of his legs had gone missing. This only happened after he is placed in the tank. However, he does not seemed to be itchy. My husband is already very unhappy with the chin, hence, I do not think I can buy a new cage ( his 5th cage in 1/2 a year time ) for him. Any suggestion what can I do ?
Thanks.

You mean he's dropping fur due to the heat or what? You placed him in a glass tank, is the tank in an air con room? Cos glass tanks inhibit ventilation, he'll feel hot unless he's in an air con room. With increased heat and humidity, it's possible that he may get fungus. For treating fungus in chins, it'd be good to bring him to the vet, to cure it. All along he does not stay in aircon and there is no sign of fur loss. It is only after he is housed in the glass tank in my balcony that this happened. He does not scratch himself. If it is due to the heat, I will try to convice my husband to move him back to the room. However, will the fur grow back ? Is there any other sign of fungus infection other than fur loss ? Feeling very depressed as I have not been giving enough TLC and fighting for his "rights" Thanks.

Even though he may be accustomed to Sg's climate, living in a glass tank will definitely may him feel more hot. If you place him in a cool environment, his fur shld grow back, if the problem is due to heat, in the first place. Fungus can render the infected area reddish, and there are normally flakes of skin on the area. Looks a little bit like dandruff, but bigger. Do you know anyone who can help you look after him temporarily? Cos umm, I feel that maybe if you can't look after him properly, let someone you trust and know, foster him for you, while you continue to find a permanent home for him. I think you must find someone you know very well, so you can keep tabs on him.
Cos I'm scared that meanwhile, he's not living a proper life for chins, he might fall sick. It's just a precaution and a suggestion. You dun have to do it, but just consider lor. Personally I wld feel heartbroken to do that, but husband dun let, a little no choice. Good luck k.
ghost> Daniel was selling a brand new one for I think $180. Am not sure. It's quite a big cage too.

Thank You for all the advise. Will shift the location of his tank. Any suggestion what cage should I get for my chin ? I cannot use those normal cage with bars cos he will squeeze out by some miracle, cannot use plastic cages with metal bars on top cos will bite thru the metal bar, pull the bar back and release with a loud bang. Even if I want to get new cage also headache

Umm, it's possible that I can foster him for you, but can you provide the cage? Cos I dun have a spare one. I on the air-con at night, but not in the daytime. But I wld prefer you think carefully abt this, cos I also dun want to commit myself, I scared something happen to him, my fault. -_-; I wish I cld buy him, but I dun have money to spend on getting another pet.
Personally, I wld prefer him living in a normal plastic based, metal cage. If he bites the cage and is noisy, I can distract him. But I dun think he shld live in a tank. I seriously doubt he can escape from a proper, tight wire cage. Previously, my Totoro (TOV sapphire male) cld escape. He knew how to open his wire door cos the catch is loose. I solved the problem by hooking it closed with a metal lock. He cldn't open it big enough to squeeze out.
How big is your chin? I find it quite amazing he can squeeze out. Either he is a little skinny, or the metal bars are too wide apart. Right now, my chin cages include a large Ferplast cage, 2 modified bird cages, 1 zoozone and 1 superpet. No one can escape from the cages unless I leave the door open.

It's big enough for 1 chin, but it has to be modified. The tray must be placed inside instead of bottom, cos chin legs are very thin. It'll definitely fall through the gap, and that wld prove disastrous. It must also have 1 or 2 ledges, so that the chin has something to jump on. Other than that, it's fine. I actually considered using those cages before, but didn't buy them in the end.
However, just a note here, its walls have very large wire gaps that a very thin chin can squeeze through (leaving most of its fur behind), plus it's entirely possible that if the chin is very jumpy, it can get its legs trapped on the wire walls, which is exactly what happened to my Haruki. He twisted his poor foot, and now, he is living in a zoozone cage, where the only thing he can do is bang his head against the top. -_-; So these aspects have to be taken into account too. The $20 cage is alright, just that it does have some drawbacks. But I doubt he'll be able to escape from it. At least it's very airy.

I dun recommend chins to keep in tank because of poor ventilation problem esp. in day time w/o air-con. Cage will be ideal but surprisingly your chin can manage to escape from it. You chin is a baby chin ? I got a suggestion here. You can use those wire mesh to wrap the cage. There will have some modification needed by securing the wire mesh to the cage using pliers. Initially I'm using plastic type of wire mesh to place on the base of my cage but my chin keep on gnawing it. Finally I manage to buy some metal type of wire mesh and replace the plastic type. Can replace it again once it rust and it definitely last longer. Hope these help
