the pair of cavies i adopted got mites on them... and got skin prob leh... as for the mites i can handle but wat about the skin prob??? eh, should i bring them to a vet??? anyone with experience to tell me wat to do huh?? mites can be treated easily... some pple use a mite/flea killer eg spray on for small animals. Personally, I recommend using "revolution". This is a controlled item which can only be gotten from a vet. Perhaps, you might wanna bring your cavy to Dr Ling or Dr Chan from Namly Animal Clinic, and see what they would recommend. I have some cavy breeder frens who use "revolution" and is said to last up to a month of protection. What's more, it is easy to use. Just one drop at the back of the neck is sufficient. As for th skin problem, what kind is it? Care to describe more

the mites looks like tiny little brown dots on the cavies's fur rite? U can buy ultra care spray to kill them...can get rid of them in less than a week. Spray the guinea pigs till they are soaked with the solution then blow dry them...do this for 3-4 days then bathed them....after that check if they still have any left on their body, if so, repeat again.
I used to spray & leave it for 15 minutes before i bathed them...i sprayed & bathed them everyday for about 4 days & the mites will be gone. When my 2nd pig got mites, i did'nt bath her, i just sprayed & blow dry...
Both got mites when i bought them...after my own treatment method, they have been mites free ever since...very easy to cure...
But i find that Ultra care is not easy to find...so for my 2nd piggy i used hobo...i feel that it is not as good as ultra care & i am also allergic to it...it still works, but takes a longer time...slightly more than a week.

hmm... patches with no fur is caused by the mites lah... once you can get rid of the mite problem, the fur will grow back eventually.
