www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid85/p62c57d8922282ab8e2b754a1c7700e49/fac5534d.jpg[/img] That's the last pic of them. They look quite cute, but are really fierce. My bf wasn't in to feed them recently, so I took over. I almost got bitten the moment I stuck my hand in with the food scoop. I jerked back in time, so Minnie bit the scoop instead. But still, after that, I told my bf he can feed them himself. They are so stupid, cos they keep trying to bite me. Argh!

You have given them sand bedding? Will they kick it about and toss it out?
Oh and they bite? So this pair cannot pet one..... talk about biting,,,, my sapphire who was the tamest has suddenly turned into a biting ham...she's been with me 6 months liao. I am so sad, she can even fly at my hand while I change her food dish and hang onto my finger with her teeth!!! KK out of topic maybe I'll start a new thread and see why this has happened to her.

Ya, they are both very fat and big. There are some pp who keep fat tails too, and they see mine, they alwiz say they look very fat and big. Hehe. My bf feeds them worms once every 2 days, abt 2 or 3 worms each. They gobble them up greedily. Can even fight over the worms. Ya, their tail very cute hor? Hehe. Yes, they are given sand bedding. I use Supreme Chinchilla bath sand, which is coarse. It's almost like their natural habitat cos they come from the desert. They drink very little. It take weeks for them to finish their water bottle. Also, the sand bedding keeps their fur smooth and soft. Do you know, that their fur texture is actually similar to a chinchilla's? I touched it before, a few times only, when my bf managed to catch them. If you keep them in wood shavings or bc, their fur is not as nice. Yes, they'll dig in the sand and toss it out, so can't put too much cos my cage is not a tank. If it's a tank, I can put alot. Can pet them when they are sleepy and just woke up. Cos they are blur. But if they are wide awake and hungry, dun try to pet them at all. It's the same as offering your hand as food. Umm, ghost, I think I have to give you a strong warning here. They are NOT hamsters. They are duprasi, fat tail gerbils. You dun want to tame them, simply cos of 1 reason. When they bite you, dun care what mood they are in, the fact, once their teeth latch on to your skin, expect to bleed k? Their bites are serious. It's no hamster bite that to me, I find it nothing at all. Been bitten by all kinds of pets, hamsters are like ant bites. But fat tails are different. They bite deeply into your hand, so the wound is very deep, and you'll definitely bleed. I've been bitten less than 5 times, but that's enough for me. Cos each time, I stand there like an idiot, with blood dripping down 2 holes in my finger. The holes are not big, but the wound is deep. Dun fool around with them. They are considered exotic animals and are really not easy to tame. They are also aggressive to each other, so... you understand? Their nature is such. They are not evil, it's just that this is their character. Their life and even mating is very rough. The female is generally more aggressive. If she gets her blood up, she can even kill the male. So ghost, I dun want you to fool around with them. Later in the end, you lose some fingers due to excessive blood loss ah, you come and chop me up cos I show you what they are.

Thanks for the early warning.....base on what u jus said, they are Really interesting pets....imagine next time u see a whole generation of domestic gerbils in my home,hehehe.....well,it won't be anytime soon....let me try out the gerbils at my fren's place 1st,hehehe.... Btw,i jus wonder how tamed can a gerbils be....?what is the maximum tameness they'll be tamed to...?

If you're talking abt Mongolian gerbils, they are very easy to tame. But they are just very active animals. Think of them as robos. They dun bite, but they dun stay still in your hand also.
As for duprasi/fat tail gerbils, I guess the tamest is just you hold them la. But must be careful. Cos actually my bf can hold them. But they can suddenly change their mood and bite him in a flash. Then he must quickly put them back or he'll have some holes in his hand. He can also hand feed them worms, just that he must be very careful, in case they bite him instead of grabbing the worms. Umm, this kind of gerbil just likes to bite la, doesn't matter what you doing. You feed them, they also want to bite you. lolz

They eat normal hamster mix also. They are fed that daily. But their diet is supposed to be omnivorous. So they need more protein. Umm, I dunno if they are insectivores (did I get it right?) but I read on the internet that I have to feed them insects also. If their diet is only on hamster mix, they tend to lose weight. Their tail becomes skinny. I dunno if I mentioned this, but Mickey did battle with a c0ckroach before? I tot I mentioned it. He killed it and ate half its body. Somemore, it was quite big. And I found the other half of the body? Wa lau, actually quite disgusting. lolz
