Hello... I'm so glad you've gotten your chinchilla. Wld just like to ask, how often does your fren dustbath the chin? No offense pls, cos he looks like he's got uneven fur growth and his fur looks a bit matted. He might need some grooming, but not yet I guess, since you just got him. Must wait until he's more settled. I think you mentioned that he fought with other chins, that's why fur is like that. Perhaps it's better he's alone then. You can take care of him now and his physical appearance will improve. He's lucky to be bought by you, keke. Good luck.

I can't get two wif 2 diff cage lah... lata my parent throw them away ah... yes.. MaoMao looks abit scared coz of new environment and no longer can see his buddies. First few days he took very little food but luckily now he picks up. I dun dare to ask how often she(ex-owner) gives sand-bathing but she told me she always water bath them. Eh... I dun think I give them water-bath coz I duno how. Right now I almost give him sandbath every 2days and he really loves it. Twist and turn his whole body... hahaha... very funny wan. How to groom him? I mean do I really need to brush him everyday? Can see him dropping some fur lor.. haiz.. I'm abit worried. Regarding the uneven fur.. the ex-owner told me to cut it. maybe I should try one of these days. When I went to collect him, I saw one very naught Chin is biting other fur... wau liew.

I'm glad he's eating more now. Yeah, you give him sand bath enough, dun have to bathe in water unless he's very very dirty. Can be stressful. He might be molting if you see his fur drops out a lot and uneven. Yes, you can cut it, but chins normally molt for 1 month. Hanako was like that at first also, now, her fur is very even and nice. You can comb with a very fine tooth comb if you want, but if he dun like, then you take things slowly, comb a little bit everyday can liao. I actually dun cut my chin fur very often, only if it's matted. Cos normally their fur drops easily, that's why I dun wan to cut. It'll grow back. You can cut if you like, just be very careful. Wielding scissors near jumpy animals like chins can be a bit dangerous. Get a helper if possible.

Of course you won't abandon him! Hehe, even if his fur is not nice, he is still a friendly, lovable creature. Actually, I got a beige female whose fur is very very ugly! But there's a reason for it, that is, she doesn't bathe in dust! I'm serious. She's the only chinchilla I've ever met who doesn't bathe in dust. When I give her the dust, she just sits inside, refuses to roll in it. I asked pp abt her strange behaviour and read books. I only managed to find 1 reference that says chinchillas must be taught by their mums to bathe in dust. If they were fostered by humans or weaned too early, they might miss the chance to learn this behaviour from their mum. So I suspect mine is like that. I let her watch the rest bathe, but she's totally not interested at all. She's 2 yrs old now. Can u imagine? A chinchilla not bathed in dust for 2 yrs? Her fur is a total mess. I brush her once a week, but it's useless cos her fur is thick and unkempt. She actually looks like maybe, an angora rabbit gone wrong, or something. No offense to angoras. I got her from this guy who bought her when she was quite young. Then he must enter NS, so he got no time to take care of her. I still like her very much, but she does look awful. Keke. But her being ugly doesn't mean I'll abandon her, just like you won't abandon your Maomao.

Ya... I can imagine... no sandbath for years... u got water bath her? Hum... I wonder if u let her sees ur other chins doing the sandbathing .. will she learn? Mao Mao loves sandbath. Think he is abit "disorder" whenever I put him in my carrier for sand bathing. kkkkk ... serious... he enjoys it very very much. His appearance looks abit weird (I admit) but he is very tame. Allows me to sayang his head.. body.. comb him (occasionally lah). Chins are nice pet... and I saw chins babies in the book.... wow..... super cute. Ears are short and round face... kkk... think most of the babies look like that... bunnies oso Clover>> Does ur beige gal also got these black spots at the edge of her ears? Will the spots grow bigger as time goes by? I mean when they get older? What r those spots U can see MaoMao got lotsa spots man...

No I dun bathe her in water. I already let her watch the rest bathe, but it doesn't help. I also let her be in the bathing container while another chin is bathing, but she still doesn't bathe.
Yes, my beige girl has black spots on her ears, it's just a part of her colouring, dun worry abt that. It's not disease or anything. Haha.
I know a guy who does grooming for chinchillas. It's this pet shop in Yishun. I dunno if anyone sends to him though. I asked abt it before though, he water bathes the chin and uses a blow dryer to dry it. Like any other animal. I think it costs $20-$30? But I'm against it cos the chin wld be stressed being bathed by an unfamiliar fella in totally stranger settings.
