I don't know why but my hammies are not cheek pouching. They never store anything in their cheek pouches and when they need to move something, they do it like dogs - holding the food or bedding with mouth! I am just wondering if this is becoz that they have so many food available everyday that they don't need to hoard anymore?? Or, did they leave their parents too early to learn this skill? I think cheek pouching is fun to watch, so how do I 'teach' them to do that? (maybe stuff my cheek with foods and show them? )

Oh,that was a funny hamsters you have got.Every hamster will keep their food in their cheek pouch,if they don't do now, they'll soon do as time passes. Do you filled up (to the rim) the food tray in your hamster's cages? And how much do you feed your hamsters per day? By the way, some hamsters choose to hide their food in some corner of the beddings. If they don't keep their food in their pouch during transportation,it could be that the food is too big and their cheek pouches is filled up.

U want to see your hamster cheek pouch their food? Well,i fed my hamsters 2 teasthingyfuls of hamsters for each hamster in a cage,...meaning if i got 2 hams in a cage,i fed them 4 teasthingyful of hamsters mix....i used to do it twice in a day....one feed in the morning, the other at night.....morning i fed them hamster mix....night time would be nutri-block.....but recently i've reduced some cages of my hamster food intake to once a day....just trying to keep em on well-balance diet.... Do not be tricked by your hamsters who would empty the food bowl almost immediately....they problably kept some in their cheek pouches & some hidden in some corners of the their beddings.....whenever u clean up their cage, check to see if there is any hidden food in the beddings that are uneaten..... When i give my hamsters sand bath....most of them would empty their cheek pouch...& leave the food in the bathsand.....perhaps they knew that i'm going to give em fresh new hamsters mix after that i cleaned up their cage.....hehehe.....

I've done more observation, it turned out that they are actually cheak pouching It's just that their cheek pouches are not as big as my former Syrian one, and they never expand their pouches up as my former syrian did....
