thyme Posted: Nov 6 2003, 01:09 AM Member Group: Members Gender: Joined: 10-October 03 juz visited burgess website...if u look @ the nutritional value, the % of oil is way too high & the % of fibre is way too low. This is not going to benefit any rabbits in long run. Over-weight rabbits will have many helath complications in long run. They tends to get sore hocks due to over-sized body weight. Best is to look for oil % not more than 3. As for fibre, 18% is the minimum requirement, the best is 24% - 32%. The higher the fibre %, the lesser chance to get hairball stuck in intestine. Extracted from Burgess website: Supa Rabbit Excel - Nutritional Analysis Protein 12%, Oil 4%, Ash 7%, Fibre 14%, Calcium 0.90%, Phosphorous 0.51%, Vitamin A 11,000 iu/kg, Vitamin D3 1,500 iu/kg, Vitamin E (alpha tocopherol acetate) 60 iu/kg, Copper as cupric sulphate 15 mg/kg. personally, I've not tried this pellets b4, but by looking at the nutritional analysis, I won't even think of giving it to my rabbit. But if you are looking at the Supa Rabbit Excel lite, this will be much better option than Supa Rabbit Excel. Extracted from Burgess website: Supa Rabbit Excel lite- Nutritional Analysis Protein 12%, Oil 2.5%, Ash 7.5%, Fibre 18%, Calcium 0.90%, Phosphorous 0.51%, Vitamin A 16,500 iu/kg, Vitamin D3 2,000 iu/kg, Vitamin E (alpha tocopherol acetate) 90 iu/kg, Vitamin C 20 mg/kg, Copper as cupric sulphate 15 mg/kg. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I found this in mop, anyone knows the validity of this?? is the burgess for junior rabbits too high in oil content?? Can anyone help?? cuz i feeding this junior for 4 mths liao..

Me also feeding them this SUPA EXCEL Junior (light green packaging) + other kind of pellets. They told me is recommended by Vets. The oil contents will help to prevent bunnies from having hair ball problems. (From what I saw from my bunnies poo poos - after taking these pellets were - their poo poos with tails - hair swallowed isn't it?) Anyone knows?

everybody got certain brands they dun trust and certain brands that they trust. i've asked dr ling/dr chan (cant rem which 1) about feeding my buns burgess. surprisingly, they knew about this new brand. and said that it's vet recommended product, so should be safe to feed buns. i told them about the ingredients and they dun sound worried about it at all. that's why i dun care what others say about burgess. i'll still feed my buns that.
dun everything listen to what ppl say. see for urself or ask the vet about it. dun make same mistakes again. let the vet know ur worries. they'll give u the best and most accurate answers.

hmm.. me dowan to anyhow believe so ask second opinion. i tink i will switch to burgess for adults soon, cuz my bunny getting fatter, still love burgess as much but cannot eat too much. Oh ya another query, how come some bunny food say limit pellets to 1/4 cup a day, but some say unlimited le? is there a diff? normally i top up my bunny;s food the moment he finishes it,cuz i tink he will stop eating when he full.

Me too.....having free flow...finished - top up - finished - top up....They will stop eating after a while, and rest, and jump here and there,, take a nap, and after that, eat again. I think if they have exercise, should be ok. Maybe I am wrong ?

First of all, bunnies shouldnt b fed unlimited feed UNLESS its a very young n growing bunny(5 months or younger) cos it causes obesity. the optimal diet for bunnies should consist of umlimited HAY and pellets according to weight of the bunny.vegs should also b fed asd part of the diet. what i do is that in the morning, will feed 3 diff types of vegs.try to give different colours...but keep fruits to a minimum cos high in sugar. pellets are given at night. how much..there should b feeding guidelines available on the pack itself or can find online. unlimited hay is given all day. if the poo is small, should increase hay n decrease pellets. it is most prob a prob with the intestine....the G.I. it is advisable u dun bring bunnies out too much cos journeys do stress them out n when done too often can have an impact on their digestive system.. exercise should b a vital part of the bunny's health..but proper feeding is important too.the burgess pellets are meant to b a "complementary feed".when given with lotsa hay should mean sufficient fibre for healthy bunnies. i never encourage pple to give JUST pellets alone n expect it to b the "miracle pellets"..they can jus give that n bnot give anything else.it NEVER works that way. correct me if im wrong, but "fat"content and the "oil" content means different things.oil doesnt always equal fat? cos burgess pellets are 4% in oil cos there is a layer of poly unsaturated oil coating on the pellet to hold the pellets n prevent dust? am feeding my bunnies both burgess adult n junior.(junior for pearl n adult for biscuit) dun see any problems.the poo is always nice n round n very big. perhaps i change the hay every few hours, its important to do tt cos it encourages them to eat more hay

I'm feeding my bunnies Burgess Adult also. But I limit to 3 big spo0ns a day. The kind of chinese soup spo0n one. I dun feed more than that cos I'm scared they are overweight also. Especially Bunbun, I feel she is becoming a giant.
