i using a stainless-steel cage for my 2 bunny drawf lop.. they just give birth some weeks ago...but babies died.. i really need some advise .. Do i need to buy anything or prepare when it gives birth again... Firstly..if u want our advice then u should also update us on the situation cos then we can give u the best advice..if u jus goin to post one time n then disappear..we cant help ur bunnies tho we would LOVE to. puppy is right..if u dun wan any unexpected pregnancy(ie u dun plan to breed them) then u should either sterilise them or separate them. Bunnies only need less than a min to impregnate the female so that means if u dun wanna breed,u cant even let them out together AT ALL. Sterilsation can b done at a vet a lot of us trust,i go to Namly ANimal CLinic which is at Namly Place(near 6th avenue) for males it wil cost $60 and for females from $100-$120. Appointment has to b made at least 2 weeks in advance. and meantime PLS separate them. AFter sterilisation, they should stil b kept apart for about a month before u slowly re introduce them. However,if u DO plan to breed,i hope u do so with an intention to take up responsibility for EVERY baby that is born. Pls do realise that bunnies need at least a 2 month rest period between litters of babies. DO NOT breed consecutively without rest. Separate the male from the female once she is pregnant to let her kindle in peace. Bunnies kindle between 28-32 days.Estimate the birth date n get a nest box for the mother jus a couple of days before birth or once u see her plucking fur out. Give LOTS of hay so she can use it to make a nest...u can add some shredded tissue if u wan to make it warmer(that is the whole purpose, the kits HAVE to b kept VERY warm) A good nest box will b one where the mum can nurse in private n can keep her kits warm Then once she kindle..remove the ones dead on birth.monitor to see if she is feeding them(usu if the mother doesnt pluck fur,it means she isnt goin to feed..in which case u should Pluck the fur for her n force feed the kits at her nipples)..if mum is not lactatin then u gotta use replacement milk(very low chance of the kits surviving). keep the kits with mum till they are at around 2 months old. this is jus VERY basic stuff im telling you.if u do plan to breed, there is A LOT of things u hav to take note of...like genetics (colour n breed),how to monitor the kits progress..emergency cases...all these u can easily find out on the internet..and since u sound like u have an intent to breed,ii think the only decent thing to do WAY before that is to go read up first before u do it. cos this isnt something u should take lightly.the questions u ask are not the ones that can b answered easily.. its a whole web of intricate knowledge..

Luvpets > i feel that u r not ready to handle any bunnies' pregnancies yet. please try to avoid it until u have enough knowledge about it.
it's not easy to look after baby bunnies esp if the mama bunnies refused to look after them.

They still need their mum's milk for survival.. if that is really the case then i hope u are very ashamed of urself cos the first litter was less than a month ago n now gave birth again? Luvpets,u dun seem to love ur pets a lot if u let the mother give birth without rresting.if they gave birth around 8th dec n now 30th dec she gave birth again it means that u bred her IMMEDIATELY after the first litter. i regret giving u any advice cos if anything,i think u are a very irresponsible breeder. the babies will b weak n the mother wll prob die soon from exhausation if u dun stop doin wat u are doing. i dun kno if u actually READ wat was given as advice or u jus take whatever suits u. dun abuse the poor bunnies. they are not for profit making.

My last advice:- Babies are NOT ADVISABLE to be separated from their mum before at least 8 weeks old. Please refer to the following link to have more understanding. www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/diet.html#babiesWhat quantities of food should I feed babies and "teenagers"?Birth to 3 weeks--mother's milk 3 to 4 weeks--mother's milk, nibbles of alfalfa and pellets 4 to 7 weeks--mother's milk, access to alfalfa and pellets 7 weeks to 7 months--unlimited pellets, unlimited hay (plus see 12 weeks below) 12 weeks--introduce vegetables (one at a time, quantities under 1/2 oz.) Do considerate for the babies, you might lead a journey of no return for them if you insist selling them at this young age. Please wait for one more month. I usually do a check on the new born babies, if you feel that the mum is stop feeding them, you may have to manually feed them. This is our responsibility to ensure all the babies are healthy. If we chose to breed them, either intentionally or unintentionally, we have to fulfil our duty as their guidance angel, we are the only one that they depend on. So, my humble request, please give them a chance to have a healthy and simple life that they deserved for.
