Ive got some questions i came across in another forum.
This person mated his mini lop buck with a netherland dwarf. Is this advisable? He claims he has done his homework on the breeding and that his doe is a living example tho ple have warned that the doe might die becuz mini lops are bigger than NDs. He deliberately mated them.
Also, a mini lop and a ND cross, does it give pedigree bunnies?? what it means by pedigree? He thinks a mini lop n ND might give him either lop or ND. is it true? i think it will give him cross instead...

There is definitely a danger for the ND mummy. As the female is mated with a bigger breed, she might have a difficult labour. And yes, might lead to death.
As to what type of babies these 2 will produce, I really don't know. I guess this guy is expecting a ND with lop ears maybe.

the kind of bunnies? cross breed loh. pedigree? no way. wrong to breed mini lop male with nd female..yes. and i quote from MOP "My Minilop is about 6 months old whereas my ND is almost a year old. So the buck is roughly the same size as the doe. Of course, if he is the same age as or older than the doe, he wld certainly be much bigger and allowing them to mate will be highly risky. But this wasn't the case." erm, once bunnies get to around 6 months, they will reach their full grown size, meaning that the mini lop will anyhow b bigger then the ND..cos they dun keep growing.he might b lucky this time cos the ND doesnt look like a very good quality ND and so is bigger in size, but genetically it stil poses a danger to the ND mummy..and i really pity the mummy bunny cos the owner is obviously not listening at all to whatever advice that other people are giving. maybe should ask him wat websites he refer to cos in my research so far...i hav never come across one that says ok to the breeding of lop male n nd female(some sites do say that male nd n female lop is ok) and im intrigued cos major sites will say NO.but he seem to prefer to believe the sites which say YES. lbtw,a lot of people always think that "mini lop" is a dwarf species of lop when in actual fact is not. the holland lop is the smallest species of lops. there is no such thing called a "dwarf lop" as well..cos there isnt such a species and a bunny bred from a dwarf bunny n a lop is called a cross breed cos they are of different breeds. i read about this long ago but chose not to say anything cos he didnt seem like the type who would listen.but since u brought it up in GT,i feel obliged to say something cos i dun wan people to think they can try to breed an nd female with a lop male n always get away with it. besides,if u choose to b a breeder, pls do ur research n b discerning.dun blindly trust n believe everything.breeding is an ethics issue where u should always breed to improve the breed and not for fun n experiment. RESPONSIBILITY is very important and not jus for the ownership n welfare of the bunnies but also for the species in general. to a lot of people,it might seem like an easy thing to do..put 2 bunnies male n female together n POP! out comes babies. in reality,u could b fouling up many many future generations in their genetics and also..there is an issue of whether the breeder can b responsible when the bunnies start to produce n produce...(each litter up to 8 bunnies at times)....when he cant sell,is he goin to jus abandon them? he has to b prepared right from the start to b able to house EVERY single kit that he breeds...thats a responsibility that not many are willin to take up.. this is a big issue and i am sure i hav not covered it totally.. can only pray n hope for the best for his bunnies, hope he realise the real issues here soon (if ever) haiz........................

there are a lot of such people around who simply refused to listen. they always think that they are right. if u've tried to explain to them about it and they still refused to listen, then there's nothing much we can do but to pray hard for the buns under their stubborn ignorant 'care'.
