1 of my frenz is adopting a bunny. dis will b her 1st bunny. she wanted to adopt a so-called himalayan nd. she showed me de photo. but i found dat de bunny is totally white. she asked de owner about de breed again to confirm. de owner said dat de himalayan spots only appear when he's in air-conditioned room. is dis true? i never heard of such thing.

from what i know, it's vvv hard to find a nice proper himalayan nd in sg. i also heard b4 that the markings will be gone if temp is wrong. and they'll look like locals. i dun think once himalayan nd lost the markings, it'll grow back again. i'm not really interested in NDs. must ask those who really crazy over NDs. however, if ur fren loves the rabbit, dun bother what breed it is, just adopt, give it a good happy home. unless it's for a sum of $$. maybe ask ur fren to view the rabbit. bring some1 who knows enough about NDs / rabbits with her.

Hello Zanas, For starters, the word "Himalayan" is used to describe the colour of the bunny. It means that while the colour of the bunny is almost all white,it has a well defined coloured spot on the nose, tail and legs.ANd yes,the colour of the himi is prone to temp changes and in tropical singapore, those spots will fade off. BUT there should usually stil have a slight colur left...almost like s stain on the nose. And if kept in aircon conditions, there is a likihood tt the colour will reappear but not immediately, might take very long or maybe wont happen at all. another thing is..if ur fren wants a himi...how is she goin to know if this seller is for real, that its not jus a REW(red eyed white) that he is giving her? personal opinion is tt to find a real good netherland dwarf with the perfect dwarf features is already almost impossible.i had one but she passed away.to find one with the perfect features and the correct colour genetics is definitely impossible. to find one like that for adoption?? i dun think so..jus my 2 cents worth. but i think colour genetics shouldnt be a problem to her if she only wants it as a pet. as long as she likes the bunny, whether its good/real/authentic himalayan ND need not be a consideration right? ;D

my fren didn't really care about de colour. she'll adopt de bunny no matter wat. it was me who had doubts about de colour disappearing n re-appearing. i wondered if de owner was honest, n if himalayans do lose their colour. it's juz for my own knowledge as i'm still learning about bunnies. thanx for all de useful info

Umm, dunno if this applies to bunnies. But I read that for "pointed colour" animals, temperature plays an important part in bringing out their "colour points". These will normally be the tips of the animal's body, like nose, paws and tail. Like Chloe for example. She is a bi-colour, but for cats who are colour points, like seal or blue point, their nose, paw and tail colours will be more defined and will emerge earlier if they are kept in a cold place. I'm not sure if this applies for rabbits, it just sounds logical. From what I read, the colour on these "points" come out, cos they are the tips of the body, and those are the coldest parts of a pet's body. That's why the colour comes out. And temperature plays a part. Just something I read up. Dunno how true it is.

That's Pearl. She was a smoke pearl marten if i remember correctly. The colour might become lighter or darker when they grow older...when mature. or could be due to temp changes too. ur fren named the bunny barny?? so cute.. barny,bunny...sounds the same hor? but barny is purple leh. hahaha..
