A fantastic day. This evening, I went to feed the chins. It was supposed to be a routine day. I spent the day watching tv, and my 2 old friends actually came over and gave me a surprise visit. I had a nice time. I opened the cage, took the bowl and set it outside. I was just abt to close the cage door, when a small grey bundle of fur stumbled out of the mushroom house. I screamed! Ahhh!! A baby! It's a baby! I was ecstatic and on the verge of fainting with happiness. Hanako stared at me, startled by my scream. I picked the baby up, so cute!! Hanako was like, "Why are you screaming like that? That's just my baby." I patted her and her baby excitedly. The baby wanted to crawl back to the house, but I put it with Hanako. I wanted to remove the house and clean it. I picked up the mushroom house, and screamed! Hiding behind the house, was another baby! Wahhhh!!! The baby got scared by my scream and hopped off to hide under mum. She has 2 babies! Ahhhh! Okie, calm down. Stop screaming. So, my beloved, fat Hanako has given birth to 2 beautiful tots. I'm not sure, but either both are standard grey, or 1 is a standard grey and the other is a black velvet. Hanako has now been relocated to the zoozone 1 cage. It's safer for her and her babies. The older baby is 50g, while the younger 1 is 40g. I'm worried abt the younger 1 cos healthy chin babies shld be 50g. If it's still thin tomorrow, I must supplement its feeding. Meanwhile, Snowball is very angry with me. I have robbed him of his wife and babies. He is very lonely too. I spent quite alot of time in the pets room and I saw that he is very upset. He keeps calling out for Hanako. He searched for her everywhere in their cage. He perches on the 2nd floor, by the door, outside the house, and he calls and calls. His cries are so pitiful. But she must be isolated from him. I wish I cld make him understand. But now, it's important that Hanako focuses on her babies. One day, some months later, they'll be reunited.

Hehehe, thank you thank you all! Ya, my bf alwiz remind me that I must play with Snowball more. Last night I placed Hanako's cage at the other end of the room. My bf came home and was indignant when he saw how upset Snowball was. "How can you put his wife's cage so far? I know they must be apart, but at least put the cages together. See how upset he is!" Haiz. I was chagrined, so I placed her cage next to his, though it's inconvenient for me, and a little awkward. But Snowball immediately jumped to the door and chewed and bit the grill furiously. He wanted out, to get to his wife. Hanako was also staring at him through the plastic window. Oh well, at least they are neighbours now. Oh ya, the home gathering... Argh. I didn't mention this earlier, but my mum rented out 1 room in the house to a lady tenant. I still want to invite you all over, but this woman is afraid of animals! Ridiculous right? Especially when my dog is roaming round the house. I seriously dun understand why she wants to rent our room when she is scared of my dog. My mum just ask me to keep my pets room locked so she won't be frightened by the animals inside. Anyway, this tenant will make things a little bit inconvenient for my home gathering, but I hope to find a way to work around it. Nvm, no rush now. Ya lor, I become ah ma liao. Wahahaha... Am actually very anxious abt the younger baby, cos it's a little weak. Very skinny, only 40g and Hanako doesn't nurse it often. I dun want to lose it. I need to spend alot of time in the room watching it.

This is just terrible. My poor younger baby passed away this evening at 9pm. He died in front of us, barely 10 min after we got home from dinner. Am so upset. We came home to find him abandoned in 1 corner, and Hanako in the other corner with the bigger baby. I'm actually a little angry with Hanako, cos she refused to nurse it the whole day. I even tried to force her but she was very angry. My bf thinks I shld not blame her. Petchin mentioned to me that there are cases where chin mothers do abandon weak babies. They give birth to these babies and know the babies won't live. So they dun bother nursing it or caring for it at all. I can't believe it has happened to me.

I'm left with the black velvet baby now. Yes, when you came to visit, she was pregnant. Their pregnancy lasts for 111 days. Quite long for such a small animal. No, pregnant chins are not aggressive. Hanako is nursing now, but she is very mellow. She lets me play with her baby and I even stroke her more often now. I try to pat her and talk to her, to try to destress her. She'll just sit on her baby while I stroke her back. Sometimes she closes her eyes. I think she is tired lor. But she is not fierce. Oh ya, I also got to play with petchin's pregnant and nursing chins before. They are not fierce. So in this way, they are different from hamsters.

The silver whites are either Snowball or Spider. I assume it's Snowball, cos he alwiz bite me too. The only person he doesn't bite is my bf.

Sorry that I haven't been into GT for so long. Will explain everything now. Firstly, of course, is that school has started again. So I have less time to surf the internet. There are times where days go by and I dun touch the computer at all. So sorry if anyone has tried to contact me. Also, sometimes when I'm in school, I switch off my hp as well, cos I have some fussy lecturers who harp alot abt hps. They are so annoying. So pp who call me and can't get through, now you know why.
Secondly, on the first day of school, 5th Jan, Caley gave birth! I only found out at night. Came home to once again, a baby in the cage. This time, it was my bf who saw it first, and he yelled as well. For Caley, this is a very shocking birth to us, and it also scared us a little. It was impossible to tell that she was pregnant, cos she didn't gain any weight at all! It was different from Hanako, who put on alot of weight. This worried us, cos we realised she shld not have become pregnant at all, the baby was so thin! But turns out to be a real spunky fellow as well. Like our older baby, Spunky.
That first night, the baby escaped from its cage (it's an afro violet, btw). I went in to check at 7am in the morning, before school. It was gone! Fortunately, we found it after moving some crates. The little tike had jumped up to the 2nd crate on top, even though it's only 1 day old. Powerful cutie.
But the danger was obvious of course, if the cats had gotten to it... I don't want to imagine that. We immediately switched cages for Caley and her baby. Was rushing and harried, cos my bf had to go to work and I had to go to school. But it paid off. Today, the baby is slowly gaining weight and hasn't escaped again. Am pumping Caley in an effort to increase her weight and milk flow.
One thing very different is that Caley has become grumpy and anti-social. Different from Hanako. Caley now takes to biting me each time my hand is inside the cage. She is REAL UNHAPPY. I think it's cos of having a baby, feeling tired and having to stay in a smaller cage now. She chomps at me each time and it's getting me real upset. Cos I happened to devote time to her more among the 3 violets, yet she is so angry with me. Even before the birth, when I tried to make her gain weight, I was alwiz gentle with her. But she still doesn't trust me fully. Feel so upset. I hope her baby won't be like that too.
Fortunately, she is very gentle with her baby. Haruki, her adult son, is also good-natured. I hope this baby will be like him. Haruki is doing pretty well in that he likes humans now. He greets me at the door during dinner, instead of hiding in the back like last time. Egan is also ok, he put on more weight than the others, but he is also unhappy cos I took Caley away from him. It might be a permanent separation as I don't want Caley to give birth anymore, not until she is at least 700 grams. That will take abt 1 yr or more, at the rate she is going. She hardly gains weight. I'm stuffing her with so much food, but she is not becoming fat!
Anyway, sorry everyone, that I've disappeared. School and chinchillas have been running me ragged. A note to bunnylover, if she sees this, Mocha is fine! But I strongly believe she is really allergic to dust, as now, she sneezes 2x or 3x when I sweep the floor. She eats more now (what a relief!) and is slowly learning to finish her hay. But I'm still having a bit of trouble toilet-training her. She p0os in the right place, but she pees anywhere she wants. -_-;
