Hello everyone, wld just like to share something with you all. Recently, I've found that more and more people are rehoming their chins, and even to the point of giving them up for adoption. Last year, I 'adopted' 3 afro violets. The year before in 2002, I adopted a TOV, my beloved Totoro, who passed away from bacterial infection last year.
This year, someone gave up a beige male to me, as she and her family has no more time to look after their pet. Umm, I don't really know what to say. I don't think these people are irresponsible (the beige male owners), as they actually screened me before the adoption. The thing is, I do feel sad that this is happening to chinchillas. I've seen it in hamsters, guinea pigs and rabbits. And now, chins are also being given away.
I actually heard on the mailing list recently that 3 chinchillas were abandoned at SPCA. Fortunately, they were all adopted by people almost immediately. I guess I just feel a little confused by what's going on. It does make me feel melancholy, but at least right now, the chin pp I know are quite responsible and loving. This lady whom I adopted the beige male, insisted that I must have a female to pair with him as she wants him to have a mate. Also, she'll be visiting him now and then to make sure he is ok. She is actually dropping by next week.
She doesn't have the time to look after him permanently, so she gave him up.

Well as u have said,s'porean is getting busier....but as i have mentioned to everyone before....if a person wants to adopt a pets,he/she must be commited to look after it for the rest of its life....it's a lifetime commitment....& also priority plays an important roles too....imagine,if a particular person has children....& as many have known, children are the most difficult to look after as compare to any animals in the world...but why aren't their children being abandoned & be found in places like SPCA.....ironical isn't it?& don't forget abandonment of animals & children in any ways are against a human's conscience & against the law too....but it doesn't happen to children, isn't it so? If this trend goes on,maybe during our grandchildren time....we'll get a chance to see even humans are being abandoned....not forgetting we all will have old folks staying with us one day. What is this world becoming into....haiz..... For those who adopt the animals i rehome,i often ask em this....will u one day abandon your kids, your father or mother....can u afford that kind of commitment to animals?give em time to think....if their decision is made....then i'll allow em to take the animals....i'm not God,i can't make 100% sure every animals goes to good home & forever remains in a good home....but i tell em this,i believe in retribution....& if anything BAD happens to em,their decendants or their love ones, don't blame anyone....except themselves....cos they are the one who make the decision to commit in the 1st place.....

It's just a little sad. I dunno what's going on, but I have read some 'giving up' ads on the mailing list. 1 or 2 pp I heard, even gave up whole herds of chins. I heard she did it cos she was suddenly posted overseas for work, and had absolutely no choice. She had more than 10 chins, and never sold any of her chins. She wanted to keep them all permanently. But her company posted her overseas, even though she resisted it for a while. I think it was an 'either go abroad or submit your resignation' thing for her. I don't blame her, but it's really scary.
It seems to boil down to a survival choice in the end, for those who are posted abroad or go overseas to study. I think that humans are already being abandoned. Seriously. When I was in JC, I had to do community work. You cld choose what kind of work you want to do. I chose to visit old folks' homes. I spent 2 or 3 weekends doing that, along with some of my classmates. When we went to visit, there were some old folk who were very happy to see us, and some who wanted to be left alone. The nurse told us to leave this old man alone, as he was very fierce and hated people.
When we asked her why, she said that his son had abandoned him in the home, and never visited him at all. In fact, the old man's fees were not paid and that they cldn't even locate the man. It seems like he moved to another place, and didn't tell the old folks' home. The old man is very bitter and angry, and he hates people. He just lies in bed and stares out the window all day. He doesn't communicate with the other residents as well. Humans are being abandoned already. You don't have to wait till next time to see it. Just visit an old folks' home, and you can see it.

As what i have often tell my friend....one mother can feed 7 children....but 7 children cannot fed one mother.....what is this world becoming into...even Humans are being abandoned.....haiz......i got the saying becos my old house neighbour's 7 children has also abandon their mum in an Old Folks home too..... I seriously hope & wish everyday that humans will not continue to abandon or Ill-treat their pets....Animals are not Toy....they are also Living Life.....part of the cycle of nature....when they understand these basic....they'll understand the meaning of "Being a Human".....
