As many ppl wld have noticed, the weather in Sg this yr has been hot, very hot. My room temperature averages 30, at night, it hits 32. The lowest I can get it to is 28 with an air con. If it rains, that's an added bonus, I can get the room to 26 degrees. I worried that I wld lose my chins, in fact, on the mailing list, a few ppl did. It was quite terrible for them. And so, I'm really forced to say that really, for singapore, it's best for your chinchilla if you can keep it in 24 hrs air con. I fully intend to do so once I get my own home (if that ever comes round). Meanwhile, they are getting air con half a day, 12 hours. It's the best I can manage now. And I learnt in school that you can kill most air-borne germs and bacteria by keeping a humidity of 45% and a temperature of 24 degrees. The humidity and temp works together. It's part of maintaining a pharmaceutical clean room. But I dunno how to get the humidity that low in a room, other than using a de-humidifier, and you have to control it carefully. The levels cannot vary too far over a range or it doesn't work. I was really fascinated when I learnt that. Sg humidity is an average of 60 to 70%, hitting 80% when it rains.
