Just wondering if anyone had ever fed a stray cat? Found six kittens hiding in the store room of my school yesterday... They were afraid of humans and I was thinking of feeding them... They really look so pitiful... So thin... But am I doing the right thing? Cos I can't go to school everyday and feed them... My friends are worried that if we feed them, they would be too dependent on us... So how? Feed or not to feed?

Well, the thing is that I can't get near them... They hide in the storeroom where there are lots and lots of used items, chairs, tables which most of them have rust... One of the cats, which I assume must be the eldest, keep hissing at me even when I'm putting out the food for them... The cats and kittens would only came out to eat when I was not near them... So I just sit in the study pavillion (could keep a watch on them and not so near to them too)... The cats are really very adorable... The reason why I can't put food overnight in school is that the cleaner who is in charge of the D&T room would throw it away... Everytime my friends and I went to feed the cat, he would stare at us but say nothing about it... We were afraid to let the teachers know as they would call the SPCA and have them put down... So far, no one have know about the cats.... We came upon them by chance... Else we also wouldn't have noticed them... They are really timid... Once they heard any footsteps, they would run to hide...

pets paradise > i fed stray cats b4. in void deck. A LOT of them. once i open the treats, all the cats from everywhere start walking near me. quite scary. but there are some who are very timid. so i just put the treats near them, then walk away. after a while, they'll go near to eat it 1. but hor, i heard feeding stray animals are illegal leh...

Thanks guys for your help. I think that there may be a little improvement. One of the cats, who will hiss at me whenever I get near her, actually meow at me for the first time... hopefully she will get over her fears of me.

You can feed the strays cats but just make sure you clean up after that. Which means if you put their food on paper/container, you have to remove the paper/container later on. So that it will not attract ants or thingyraoches. It is consider as littering and could subject to fine if you are caught. The mother cat should be familiar with you by now that's why she is not hissing at you. She does that to protect her babies. Would you like to send an email to cat welfare or metta cats to ask them to help? Otherwise when this batch of babies grow up, they will breed and multiply again. Then more problem. www.catwelfare.org www.mettacats.org/Stray cats are very clever. I fed a few at my estate. And there is this particular one who knows how to come to my house to call us if she is very hungry.
