Cat Welfare Society Reward for Information on Cat Abuse case in Tampines
A street cat was found on Wednesday, 19th May 2004, at Block 450 Tampines Street 42, with a raffia string tied so tightly around its front paw that the string had ¡§eaten¡¨ into its flesh all the way to the bone. The damage was so severe that part of the cat¡¦s fur and skin had peeled off, leaving the flesh and bone exposed.
This abused cat was discovered by a volunteer caregiver at around 9.15pm, when she was on her rounds to check on her cats and give them their nightly meal. The cat was brought to a veterinary clinic the next day, where the vet immediately operated on it.
A police report was made on 20th May, but the case cannot go forward due to insufficient evidence. Therefore, Cat Welfare Society (CWS) is offering a reward of $1,000 to anyone who has information on this case. The reward will be given only if this person is willing to make a police report and testify in court; and if the information leads to a conviction.
If members of the public have any information on this case, they should CWS at info@catwelfare.org.
At this time, Cat Welfare Society would like to remind the public that animal abuse is a chargeable offence with penalties of up to $10,000 and/or one year¡¦s jail.
Cat Welfare Society is currently in the process of putting together an Abuse Reporting Kit, which will consist of the following:
a) A brochure listing out:
i) What to Do When You Witness a Cat Being Abused
ii) What to Do When You Come Across a Cat That Has Been Abused
b) Information on What the Law Does to Protect Animals From Being Abused
b) A disposable camera (we are still looking for sponsorship) for taking photos of the abused cat.
If you know of anyone who can help sponsor the cameras, please let us know.
We hope to be able to give this kit out to our many volunteer caregivers, so that they can help us fight against animal abuse.
