I feed Bubbles kibbles once every few days just to give him some variety and as treats. But i am very careful which brand i give to him.
Some brands i tried and recommend -
Natural Balance - I tried the Duck+Potato as well as the Ultra Premium formulas and Bubbles LOVE them, he will eat the dry food on its own. WHich is amazing cos he is SUPER fussy!
Pinnacle Trout - Bubbles didn't like this much but I know for a fact that it has worked wonders on many dogs with food allergies and since it's fish based, it does wonders for dogs with skin problems as well as shedding problems.
Innova Evo - Super palatable, alot of dogs like this, so does Bubbles. The kibbles are pretty small so it's good for small dogs.
Azmira - Westies and schnauzers as well as dogs prone to skin problems do very well on this kibble. It is lamb based and dogs on this could experience a "detox" period when changing from a not-so-good dog food to this.
Timberwolf - Bubbles love the lamb, barley and apples formula. There is also a fish formula and a "wild and natural" formula that is good for big dogs. This brand is actually really good for big dogs cos most of the formulas contain glucosamine (for the joints)
Other brands that I want to try will be Nature's Variety and Abady. Heard a lot of positive feedback about these brands.
I know alot of these brands are relatively more expensive compared to the more commonly available brands. But really, i tink if u cannot afford to buy a better feed for ur dog/s, then perhaps u should have think twice about getting a dog in the first place. Even worse if u are gonna tell me that the better dog food brands are not as common ( that is natural cos not-so-good dog foods are from big companies so they distribute to more places, give a bigger profit margin to dog food companies etc)
I've always wanted a second dog. But I consider my finances all the time. I rather keep just one dog and make sure he has a good quality life rather than keep many dogs and not being able to provide all of them with the same amount of attention and love i would give to just one. If u feel tat u can give to many dogs, then go ahead and have many, But pls be honest to yourself and be responsible for the lives of those who will be depending on you.
