hi devilspirit!
in my opinion, before u think of what dog to buy u should know what type of person YOU are first... if u're not those outdoor type of person, breeds like jack russell are not suitable for u....
if u prefer a low maintaince dog, i suggest u don't consider having maltese, shih tzu which needs daily grooming...
for me i prefer miniature schnuazers cos they don't shed, they need not have to be walked everyday but still a good companion to bring along to the beach & they're not yappy like other terriers... but they need to go for grooming sessions like every 2-3 mths & i've to wipe their mouth after meal so he can maintain a clean and odour-free muzzle...

Just to share an experience. My cousin got a JRT when she was 13, despite my telling her that she is not active enough for the dog. Cos she tends to stay at home, don't like to go out one. She said that her dog will be exactly like Wishbone. I told her no, get a pomeranian, or a dog with a calmer temperament. She insisted on a JRT cos she loves Wishbone. After only a few months, her mum suddenly called on me. She said this," Can I trade your dog for mine? Your dog is toilet-trained and seems very obedient. My dog doesn't listen to me or my daughter." I stood there in shock for a moment. Then when I opened my mouth to yell at her, my mum cut in and laughed. She said that's very funny. Then my mum went into a long talk into how good my dog is, and how I wld never let her go. (It's all a ruse to distract my aunt and get me to shut my mouth.) My god, if my mum didn't interfere in that moment, I wld probably be at war with my aunt. I can't believe she actually asked me that! Anyway, the point of this is that JRTs really are active dogs. They need an owner who complements their character.

that's why many parents dun want to grant their kids' wishes about wanting a dog. unless the parents themselves are serious about getting it. actu parents play an impt role in this. ;D

yes.. I have a jrt and i can tell you that they ARE very hyperactive. You can't expect to lock them up all day in the house and remain quiet. A bored dog IS a destructive dog. They WILL do anything to get your attention. Contrary to belief, short hair dogs shed MORE than long haired dogs. Though short hair dogs shed more, they are easy to groom. Usually a good brushing is all you need. Whereas Long hair dogs though dun shed as much, may require professional grooming every alt month which means additional expenses. As to what breed your condo can keep, it depends on ur condo's own rules and regulations. If you want to know whether u are committed enuf to keep a dog, maybe u want to help foster a dog from ASD/K9Love for about a month. This period, the dog can help to 'test' ur patience and the limit u can endure. See if u can endure the daily poop clearing and any mess it created...
