Guess what? My mother decided to let me have a dog when I have shift house! Its a reward for having good results. :-D I'm so happy~~ But actually, I'm abit insane.. As I'll only get one during July.. And its still months later.. I'm just too excited.. Can't control my excitement.. Hehe.. But.. When she asked my how much does one cost.. I'm speechless.. Erm, I would like to know what kind of dog is suitable for a Condo & does not bark much? And the easiest to train? And the price? Is Lhasa Apso sold in Singapore? Does it bark much? Because I'm kind of fond of it and it is small in size. But it has long fur.. I don't think long fur will do as my father & brother have asthma.. Short fur? Jack russel? But my friend says it barks quite alot. So.. I really need some recomendation

Yep, I already read that.
I just talked to my parents about it.
They told me that they will pay for the bills while I'll clean the dog's waste.
But they also said that big dogs are not allowed in Condominiums. So I don't know if there are small sized and short haired dogs. I'm hoping that it don't bark much.. I'm afraid the neighbours will complain.. Erm, does a dog's barks depends on if it is trained?
Oh yes, and how much do they eat a day?
Do they need a walk every day or fornightly?
And if they are going out for a walk, how long will the walk be needed? 2hours?
How often does the dog will need to go for a check-up to the vet? And how often do we need to shower the dog?

1. Does a dog sleep in air con room?
2. How much does a dog eat everyday?
3. How often must we bring the dog out for a walk? And how long will the walk last?
4. How often do we shower the dog? Do we use warm or cold water?
5. How often do we send the dog for a check up at the vet?
6. Does a dog barks alot depending on if its trained or not?
7. Are big dogs allowed in condominiums?

it's good to know more about dogs b4 getting 1. 'cause it's not so easy like keeping hamsters. u need to know a lot of things. 1. Does a dog sleep in air con room?yes... dog can sleep in air con rooms. esp long coat dogs. they love aircon. as for short coat, if aircon too cold, some might even wear clothes for them when they zzz. i realised that if dogs feel cold, they'll hide under blanket or go to a place where can keep them warm. 2. How much does a dog eat everyday?it depends on wat breed. of cos bigger breed tend to eat more. 3. How often must we bring the dog out for a walk? And how long will the walk last?some dogs are treated as house dog. ie. nv go out 1. some dogs everyday go for walk 3 times a day. all depends on individual. but of cos it's better to bring dogs out for walks or to play often. it can help bond u and dog. and dog will be happier and healthier tool. exercise. there's no fixed time as to how long u can bring. it depends on the dog. eg. JRT, they are v hyperactive. so they need more space and time to release the activeness in them. they got more stamina than a chh (for eg). 4. How often do we shower the dog? Do we use warm or cold water?some ppl bathe them once a day. some once a week. it's not advisable to bathe them too often a week 'cause not good for the skin. and u need to get the right shampoo that's good for dogs. OF COURSE use warm water. dogs are treated like human. 5. How often do we send the dog for a check up at the vet?when u got the dog, u need to jab them. 3-4 jabs. after all that, dun really need to send for check up, unless the dog is not well. but if i'm not wrong, u still need to jab them yearly. and NOTE THAT the medical bills for dogs usu not cheap. 6. Does a dog barks alot depending on if its trained or not?human talk. birds chirp. cows moo. dogs bark. if u dun want dogs to bark, train and teach them not to do so. it's not as easy. a lot of time, patience,... is reqd. and u still need to toilet train the dog. 7. Are big dogs allowed in condominiums?i'm not v sure about this. but i think there's a limit also. some big breeds are not allowed. there are a lot more things u need to know about dogs. and u need to have the time for them, esp at 1st when u need to train them, let them get used to environment. long coat dogs requires more maintenance, more work than short coat dogs. treat dogs like human. compare a skinny person and a very fat person. compare a long hair gal and a short hair gal. compare a person who wears winter wear everyday (ie. long coat dogs) and a person who wears singlet everyday (ie. short coat dogs). u'll roughly know how much to expect.

Ok. Thankew My mother said that her friend told her, some dogs sold at pet shops have sickness. How do you know if a dog is not sick or not?

if u dunno much about dogs, ask someone who knows to go see the dog with u. or ask around for recommendations. there are better petshops who care about dogs' health. though not many. most only care about $$. so what ur mom's friend told her is quite true.
it's easier to see the dog to tell whether dog is sick or not. those who are experienced with dogs, 1 look can tell liao. and can even tell u if the dog is really pure and worth that amount or not. some petshops, if they know u r inexperienced or know nothing about dogs, they'll go all out to cheat u. no matter what pet u buy, as long as they know u dunno anything 1 hor, they'll try to con u into getting things from them.
1st of all, u need to know what breed u want to get. small, medium or big breed. long or short coat.

Jack Russel Terriers can be TOO active and hard to train, although they are very smart, can tend to be hyper active and stubborn. Can become destructive if left alone for too long (actually, same for most dogs).
Maybe you could consider other breeds? Take a look around first... Ask around which are the reputable breeders. My friend once got a snauzer from a breeder and it died. A few mths later she got another 1 from the same breeder, also fell sick and died. So better check.

i personally wont recommend JRT to new inexperienced owners esp if u r still young. unless ur parents are the 1 who wants that breed and are willing to take full responsibilities in training them. like what ash said, JRT are too active and hard to train. if u got no experience with dogs, not advisable to get them. yes, they are v low in maintenance. but u need to consider dog's temperament also. and how much time can u spend on them? 'cause u'll need a lot of time when u just got the dog. and i really mean a lot of time. JRT 'cause v hyperactive, requires a lot of space to release the energy in them. i feel that getting a JRT is like getting a BIG dog. though JRT are small, their behaviour, temperament, everything is VERY BIG comparable to big dogs.
if ur parents got no time for dogs or most of time nobody is home, better not get 1. try to read more about all common types of breeds 1st with ur parents. then decide on 1. it's not that u like this breed, then u just get. whole family must like it too.
dun rush into things. read more about it 1st. attend more dog events. observe each breed or the breed u and ur parents like's behaviour 1st. once get dog liao, it means a lifetime's responsibility. dun be impulsive about it.
once u know and confirm what breed u want, then start to ask around for good recommendations where to get a healthy dog.

Yup, it does take alot of time and efforts to take good care of a dog.... Cleaning the poo of the doggie is not as easy either...you must prepare yourself for the worst as the dog might get diahorrea and it will be very digusting to clean it but you stilll have too... You have to spend time with it, also meaning that lesser time for other stuffs.... Not to discourage you but just to let you know the facts first...taking care of a dog is just like taking care of a baby

well... most pple like long haired breeds... but something worth considering is : whether the type of breed sheds fur or not? whether u and/or ur parents mind sweeping up the fur or not... cos' it can be quite a nuisance to some people. The type of food fed always plays an important role. A well balanced diet compared to one with lots of can food, though yummy, can cause severe hair loss, apart from other serious health issues. Perhaps you may be asking, "Is there a breed that does not shed?" the answer is YES. The miniature schnauzer does not shed fur, but its coat need to be brushed often, and its fur needs to be groomed about once a month. One of the members here in GT actually bought one. If you need a reliable breeder of MS, I can point u to one. I can point you to reliable breeders for chihuahuas (taiwanese), and maltese (Taiwanese) as well.
