My sapphire winter white had given birth quite no of times. All the while the bbs is well taken care & nothin happen. Recently all the bbs tht she given birth she ate them up or bite off the bbs bodies & heads. It look so horrible & gross. Imagine i had to clear 9 dead babies. (actually shld be 19 bodies as ths is the 2nd time she did it again)
As i knw tht mama hamster will ate those unhealthy bbs. Is there a possible tht all the bbs hammies tht she given birth are all unhealthy??
I didnt touch the hammies or clean the cage. I juz top up the foods. Does any1 knw wat had happen to her??

Another possibility..your hamster mum could be lack of nutrients.Need to know how many time your mummy hamster has given birth so far? Too many times in giving birth will shorten the mum's life.

Father in the cage? My hamsters super tame so father can be in the cage throughout pregnancy and after giving birth. However, need to observe, if for that particular birth, the mummy seems to want to fight the father, take the father out.
People say dark environment has calming effect on mummy ham ham. But not for my case. Found natural light and a little sun (not too much) makes mummy ham ham calm. I give them a big essence oil burner to hide if they wish to.
Also I tend to give cheeze, brocolli and lots of water to mummy ham during pregnancy. This increase her calcium in take and helps her to produce milk. Without sufficient milk she will kill the babies and sometime all of them.
If she continuously kill a few lit, gd to seperate her and stop breeding. Its her signal to you that she cannot take it.
Also, no strange smell around her cage and no disturbance from dogs/cats that arouse her sense of danger.
