hi Blurwen,
currently i'm using ferplast plastic flooring cage for my chin. Some of the chins lovers are using Superpet cage or cage with the pull out tray.
As for the second question, hmm........ i think overseas breed are in better quality than local chins. Moreover, plus the cost of the shipping incurred, this is why it is expensive.
But personally i feel that both are the same. Both my chins are born locally.

The better type of cages for chins are vertical ones. Cos chins love to jump. Try not to get a short, horizontol cage type. I've just changed my chin cages around, will take pics and post up soon. Cos I know I've neglected taking pics.
Generally, imported chins are of a better show quality. However, pls remember that sometimes, imported chins find it hard to live in sg without an aircon. They must learn to adapt and it can be difficult for them sometimes. Whereas local chins may be more accustomed to sg's climate. Also, there are local bred chins of outstanding quality, especially so when their parents are imported and the babies have been given good care since birth. I know breeders who have really beautiful babies for sale, and they are local bred of course. The quality of the parent's plus care of the chins plays a large part.
However, personally, I agree with xue. Local or imported, the chinchilla itself is a unique pet, and if you truly love it, its origins shld not matter. Cos there are no chinchilla shows in sg anyway, so getting a show quality one is almost useless. Besides, I think that most chin lovers just get chinchillas simply cos they love them, not cos they are show quality pets or anything.

attached is the photo of my baby's cage (3 storey high)which is taken sometimes back. It's not advisable to use bunny cage. I agreed with Clover that the cage must have many storey so that chins are able to move about freely.

hi Blurwen,
you can bring back the chin but have to pay a sum of money for bring the pet in.
But the problem is if the chin which you take care of over there is able to adapt to the environment and hot & humid weather here.
This is also another problem which you have to consider.

You can find second hand chin cages. They are equally good and much cheaper. Ghost, I thought these questions were answered in other threads? lolz It's just funny to me, cos it seems like repeating Q & A lor. I'm currently using paper based bedding for my chins, Pets Preference and Breeder's Choice. My chins are on a diet of Oxbow Chinchilla, but I'm considering changing brands to Mazuri. Must see first cos it's expensive.

It's not repeating la....cos from the other threads it says having Beddings is actually like optional lei....can do w/o it too......but tht it'd be safer to have some beddings for Chins as well....& wondering what type would best suit em...... I've done some calcuation myself too....quite expensive to own a chin lei.....

for both my chins, currently i'm using Kaycob bedding but intending to change Kaytee Aspen Litter next month.
I realised that Kaycob is not a very good absorbent. Moreover, small animals might tend to bite and eat it which is not good for their digestion.
For April's previous owner, he used Cat Litter (in pellet form) for his chins. For this particular thing, i have not try before, therefore, can't say much about it.
For my chins pellet, i used Mazuri brand before but now am using Kaytee Brand.

I'm still not quite sure abt the weather over there, coz not confirm which destination, it's either New Mexico(which is quite cold) or Arizona(which is quite warm). Anyway, which place doesn't matter, I'll try to make the temperature suitable for my own Chin... I understand that I have to pay some money, do u guys know how much is it, or is there a website I can go to find out? Also, they'll collect money from me when I reach sg or I've to say that I'm bringing a animal back 1st, then have to arrange... Hehe, sorry to trouble u guys...
