Wow the babies are so clever. They know not to drink anybody else milk except their own mother. Btw, I am curious, do the babies drink water. I saw daniel's posting of his baby bunnies and one pic showed a 3-wk old bunny sipping water from a bottle. Just wondering do they need to drink water when they are below 3 wks old?? Or the milk itself is enough??

puroland > u bathe the mama? she not stress ah? u really dare to take risk ah... luckily the babies are ok, back to normal... cottontail > baby bunnies start to eat hay and pellets when they are around 2 weeks old. and they start to learn how to drink water soon after that. after they open their eyes, they see what their mama do and they follow. when i feed mama with veggies, the babies will go near her mouth to smell the veggies. must make sure they dont eat it 'cause veggies might cause diarrhoea for baby bunnies. it's very cute seeing baby bunnies drink water. size of ball bearing same size as their mouth ah. and u can see their little tongue licking the ball bearing. really cute.

Thanks puppy for the info. It must be lots of fun seeing the babies grow. Especially seeing them learning from their mama each day. Oh, not forgetting to wish all bunny mummy here a wonderful Mothers' day. How are you all going to celebrate for your "wei ta" rabbit mama??

it's indeed very fun and educational to see the baby buns grow up. it's like our own baby. really amazing. wonderful experience. it also makes us fall in love with them. really dun understand how come some bunny lovers can just abandon these babies just like that. funny that they dun feel a thing at all? anyway, i'll be feeding all mama buns with treats, veggies and fruits...

puppylove > as long as the babies' stomach are round, it should be ok. no need to worry so much. if not, u'll have to handfeed them manually, ie guide babies to mama's milk. dun risk bathing mama 'cause bath might stress her who just gave birth to babies days ago. and bathing her might make babies feel lost. dun take these unnecessary risks. try not to always see mama esp when she's feeding the babies. try to cover part of her cage with cloth to make the place safe and secure and quiet. dun worry that u always dont see mama feeding babies milk 'cause she might be doing it when u r sleeping. complete peace mah. as long as babies' stomach round can liao.

Hahahha... i bath the mama... the mama so violent she dun stress me i already happy liao lor..hahahahah she not stress out one...she is a real chilli bud!
She is a very lazy mother... she dun feed the babies...even if they go near her she will run off... she hate feeding so i have to go on force and temptation most of the time... i will feed her with her fav food yogurt during feeding...
I have a small bottle of water for the babies... cos they started to consume hay liao so i guess they might be thirsty too!
Some funny incident... the mama was standing and waiting for food...so i throw in some "rabbit grass" then she start eating the babies went forward to eat as well... the mama dig all the grass under her (snatch from the babies) then i take out the grass beneth her and place into the food container... she got angry and sit at the side... ahhahahahha ....the babies now will sometimes nibble on the fresh grass as well....

puppylove > u can actually give the mama and babies alfalfa hay. just leave the pellets inside. when babies can see, they'll start to eat hay 1st, then slowly they'll eat pellets. they'll usually see what mama eats and they'll follow... think they'll learn to eat hay and drink water first, then eat pellets... puroland > it's better that u start feeding mama and babies timothy hay and alfalfa hay. try to reduce the 'rabbit grass' liao. 'cause if they get very addicted to it, they'll NEVER accept any other hay if u decide to change.

puppy, the mum now naughty ah, eat alfafa laio dowan to eat timothy already.. btw what is 'grass hay'??[/quote] when it's time for them to eat solid food, they'll automatically eat 1... when u see them start to eat solid food from mama's food bowl, then u start to increase the amount of food. if not, just give enough for mama... from what i know hor, 1st time mama tend to be a bit more irresponsible 1... just give them alfalfa and timothy hay. it's ok for mama to eat more alfalfa 'cause good for her health, esp after birth. maybe try to increase the timothy hay quantity, so she bo bian has to eat. grass hay ah... erm... me also not too sure... i only feed timothy hay and alfalfa hay... anyone can help here?

hi... i think puppy love refer rabbit grass as grass hay... rabbit grass is a type of grass that grow in the wild... and there are 2 types, 1 is with sap that will provide the mama with a lot of milk for the baby, the other one has pink flower that also help the mama to provide milk... only those more elderly will know of such grass... such grass can be get from the road side...dun think it is selling outside....maybe i shall take a photo and post here.
So far, i am mixing alfafa and timothy hay for the mama and babies... i only feed a small amount of rabbit grass to mama after her feeding... but the weird thing is those babies also like this grass but they only nibble not really eating them.... i am cutting down mama intake on the grass cos her waste will be soft whenever she take these grass... and now the babies have started to eat on hay and pellet so i guess they dun need so much milk from mama liao....
now i still force mama to feed the babies at least twice a day. the babies now stay toegether with mama so they have access to pellet from the food container...i do see them climb in to nibble sometimes....
btw i forget to add... since they already started feeding on solid food i also put in a water bottle for them....

oh... for rabbit grass... if ur bunnies are addicted to it, they'll not want to eat any other hay if u decide to change.

hmmm... i thot that grass hay is just dried grass lor. anyhow, i agree with puppy on not feeding rabbit grass... yes, it is the elderly who know more abt this type of grass... in fact, there is one breeder in Singapore who is feeding this sort of rabbit grass.. and from what i hear from the pet market, baby rabbits fed on this type of grass, do not readily change to hay avail on the market. Usually, when the rabbits are separated too young from the mother, lots of rabbit grass is given, but when sold to a new owner who doesn't know how to obtain this type of grass, the rabbit cannot make it lor.

remembered something, other than alfalfa hay, which u can feed to ur baby bunnies or under nourished bunnies... that is rolled oats... but cannot give too much 'cause of the high starch content...
