Hi ppl! i cant help but getting excited over this!!! My bunnies have given birth.... for some guys who knows abt my minnie and mickey, minnie has given birth to 3 baby bunnies without our knowlegde... this morning abt 6 plus, my brother say a black black calling thing (i guess he thought is insects born from minnie cos his first rection was ur bunny "sheng dong xi"!) then the first baby i saw was on the litter tray and other 2 in the toilet tray. i quickly take them out and wrap in towel. Now i have tonnes of questions and hope that experience bunnies mummies can help~! 1. At wat timing interval must the babies be fed? 2.Minnie(mother) can be quite violent so now she still stay in the cage while the 3 babies in a basket. I would take minnie out for feeding. 3.Is minnie able to take care of them if i leave them in the cage as well? Mickey(father) is also in the cage. I scare minnie kick the babies thats why now the babies are outside not with the mother. 4. wat must i give minnie so that she is strong enough and have sufficient milk for the babies?

Puroland, welcome into this forum and congrats! Ur bro is very cute and funny... how old is he?
I've seen ur Minnie and Mickey in SPF when u used it for ur avatar. Btw, i am known as @_@.
I never rear any bunnies before but i can give u advise based on what i have read, since our expert, Puppy is not in right now. Cos i feel that this matter is rather urgent.
Have u touched the babies with ur bare hands? If so, the smell from ur hand will spread onto the baby, might cause the mom to reject her babies cos she doesn't recognise them too. What i can suggest is probably a few methods.
My friend told me that she'd use her bare hand to stroke the mommy, so that smell of the mommy will be on her hand, then she will touch the baby too. Alternatively, u might want to use the beddings which mommy use to rub very softly on babies so that they smell like mommy.
Next, u do not have to feed the babies cos babies feed on mommy's milk. So u have to put the mommy together with babies and they have to stay together till at least 2 mths before babies are considered fully weaned. If i am not wrong, bunnies are born with naked bodies. Therefore they need mommy to be around to keep them warm too.
My friend housed her male and female local bunnies together, and she'd leave mommy with dady and children inside too. Perhaps Puppy will advise u on this... on whether daddy shld really stay inside.

high heels > u very funny leh... so sweet of u... hehehe... anyway me not expert lah...
puroland > like what high heels mentioned, try not to touch bbs with bare hands. best and safest to wear gloves but b4 touching them with gloves, rub the gloves (when u r wearing it) on mama bun's body 1st.
make sure the bb stomach always round round. VERY IMPT. this 1 week is very crucial. must make sure all their stomach are round. if not, u might have to craddle mama on one hand, and carry bb on the other hand, guiding bb to mama's nipple.
let mama rest for a while... she just gave birth, need rest, need to calm down.
PLEASE REMOVE THE PAPA BUN IMMEDIATELY.

whether mama bun will take care of bb will depend mainly on herself, partly on u. just dun stress her too much. u stress, she more stress. stay calm. just peep and see if bb stomach round or not. when mama bun is feeding, dun look at her. no need to give milk supplement to mama bun or bb. just make sure she got enough food and water and hay. btw, did she pull out a lot of fur to make nest? maybe u want to put a cloth underneath if her cage has smooth flooring. bb might get splayed hands / legs. always remember to rub hands / gloves on mama bun's fur 1st, then can touch bb. if can, DUN touch them, until they start to grow fur. so much to tell u...

hi!! this morning i already separate the father bun cos he kept mounting on her. now the couple stay separately cos i am scare that minnie will be stressed. As minnie is quite violent in nature... she will bite when ppl touch her, even if she is not pregnet that's why the first instinct i have is to separate the babies from the mummy... now the 3 babies are placed in a container with a cloth and some cotton wool to keep them warm. Minnie did not pull out much fur for birth and because i din know she gave birth that's why the babies are born and drop into the litter pan. As for feeding, now i hand feed them www.rossrabbits.freewire.co.uk/breeding.htm i am thinking of only let the babies to stay with the mummy when their fur has grown. www.saynora.com/breeding.htmlI cannot afford to let the mummy take care of them as this morning when i try to let her lie down to feed the babies, she refuse and start to scratch the floor run here and there. well this is her character. Now i am concern that she might have have enough milk for the babies cos the baby will suck for a while and stop, i wonder why... i have check out some site and notice that their belly must be round to ensure that they are full...that's why i bought some milk powder in case the mummy has not enough milk. puppy pls tell me what else i have to take note... so much things to find out! btw i notice that minnie is not violent to me when i clean her waste this morning, did not bite (maybe she know i am taking care of her babies)... beside 3 babies, i saw 2 red balls of waste i wonder if it is the placenta?

Do feed the mother alfalfa hay to increase her protein intake & regain her strength.
If possible, dun keep both bbs & mother bun in air-con room, they need warm temp now, espcially the bbs. If they r in air-con room, then get a study lamp, shine on the babies (abt 50cm distance), especially nite time. Cover 1 side of the cage with cloth to prevent cold air fr blowing directly into the cage.

please dun remove the babies from the mother. just let her look after them. put them in first. monitor for a few days. nobody can replace their mama bun's care and attention now.
u r taking a big risk leh. i would really recommend u putting the babies back into the cage.
b4 that, wear gloves, rub gloves on mama's fur, hold bb, rub bb lightly on mama's fur then put them back inside.
just need to monitor. dun disturb or touch the cage or bb or mama bun.

it's normal for mama bun to react violently or aggressively 'cause u kept disturbing her. she just gave birth. very stressed. then dun know where bbs are. mentally stressed. just leave them (mama and bb) alone. dun bother about them. dun touch them. just see and check whether their stomach are round, whether got food, hay and water inside. dun disturb them anymore, esp mama bun. let her calm down so that she can look after the babies well. it's normal for her to scratch, throw tantrum,... just leave her alone. just see and monitor. dun put hand inside cage or even open cage (unless really no choice). any wrong moves hor, the bbs might be gone leh. dun play play... just leave them alone. see and monitor can liao.

i also hope that she can take care of them herself but i try to but her near her babies during feeding but she just stomp away and nearly step! on her babies!!!!
Is puppy wife nature good? i mean during normal time is she also as violent as minnie, i always wonder if female bunnies are more unfriendly... cos minnie character is she hates to be touch and she will growl when angry.

'cause i got exam later...

Congrats for the birth of your 3 kittens (baby bunnies)... try not to disturb the mother as much as possible cos she might abandon the kits or worst cannibalise them. Mother bunnies feed their young usually only once a day and in the night time, and each kitten would drink less than 3 minutes. Try to avoid stressing her too much. When I experience a bunnies' first delivery, I was anxious, and often wondered whether the babies were getting enough milk... Luckily kiara was a good mother, and she took very good care of her babies. in your case, really hope that the mother will take care of the babies. It would help to check on the babies tummies, which should appear to be rounded. But before u attempt to do this, please distract the doe with some food before u inspect the babies, always remember to transfer your scent onto the mother bunny first, just in case. In the event that you may need to hand raise the kittens, a mixture of cow's milk and calcium caseinate, or perhaps check with Dr Ling at Namly Animal Clinic or how you can make your own milk supplement, or better still if she can provide a suitable formula. Most of the times, my NDs haven't given me any problems, but the best milk is still the mother bunny's milk, so can try to flip the mother bunny over on your lap and put the babies one by one over the nipple. Can make sure they drink or about 5 mins each (if kiasu) hope this helps
