HALO!
Me very ultra gong! First timer mah.
Went to get Oxbow Timothy Hay today but was told that the stock will only arrive tomolo. My Starry's Oxbow Timothy hay is finishing lahz, cannot wait until tomolo. And my bf told me this at the last minute! I didn't know that Starry can finish the big pack of hay that fast!
Having left without any choice, we bought a brandless, self packed Timothy Hay. It looks fresh and smells fresh. It's a 2nd cut hay. My Starry loves it very much. He likes it more than Oxbow.
My questions are...
1) Issit alright to mix 2 brands of Timothy Hay together?
2) If Starry decides that he doesn't like Oxbow liaoz, issit healthy to feed him that brandless hay?
3) Is there a difference between the nutrients in 1st cut and 2nd cut? Issit alright to feed him with only 1st cut or with only 2nd cut hay?

brandless as in no label?they got state the nutritional analysis? usu i dun dare to buy such hay tho its cheap cos i dun know if they really contain what they claim to contain loh. but as long as ur Starry likes it..it's ok.Infact,if u can afford to,its actually good to give a variety of hay....so they wont get bored with it. maybe thats why Starry appears to like the new hay so much..cos its something new mah.and its awlays good when they wat more hay. thats what kiasu me thinks la.. However,2nd cut hay is usu higher in protein n lower in fibre as compared to 1st cut..which is not surprising cos 1st cut got a lot of stalks whereas 2nd cut is usu very leafy.Bunnies always seem to like 2nd cut hays..APD also carries 2nd cut timothy hay.its not advisable to feed 2nd cut alone cos it can b quite fattening la

Aiyo! Thanks for answering my question. I didn't know that 2nd cut can be so bad. Heng I just got a big pack of Oxbow Timothy Hay today. 1st cut ones... so I can mix lor. After he finishes this 2nd cut hay, I wun buy back the same brandless one liaoz. Perhaps will give him a variety of hay like what u advised. The brandless hay has no brand and yah lor.. didn't indicate any nutritional values. It looks like it was self packed by the shop. It costs around the same price as a small pack of Oxbow Timothy hay. Bought it at $8 for a small pack too.. dunno cheap or what. I find it expensive for a small pack. Hehehehe!!! Cos my Oxbow big pack only $16++.

WAH LAOz.... That auntie still kept telling me that 'Browns' many people buy... most her buyers recommend that. Then she also told me that the brandless one many people buy also. Seems like every of her items are bought by many people and recommended by many people! I was under tremendous pressure that day. Cos Starry's hay is finishing real soon and only left with those very short and dusty hay. Then Oxbow ran outta stock n I was in a rush! More chamz... so anyhow bought a pack. Since u all say until liddat hor... I think I better dun buy liaoz. Will ask that auntie about 'King' Oat Hay the next time I go. Luckily I got the Oxbow today. So can mix with the brandless one. At least still not so bad. Yah, that auntie super talkative n friendly. But she always recommend me the wrong things... and always provide me with the wrong information too. Btw, she told me that the bunnies in her shop all eat the brandless hay.

I suspect the brandless 2nd cut hay is APD. Some retailer may buy the 35 lbs bale and repack into mini bale and sell at $8. Though the distributor do no allow this, but I am sure some who want to make profit would secretly do so. The profit will be really good to repack them to smaller bale.
Last time, i bought the Anderson hay from PLC also brandless. But now they made label for it already.

i think the hay geraldo talkin about is called Alfafa King.but one advice hor..dun get the one in a box one cos i realised the box ones always like not very fresh.the one in a packet one is fresher, greener. they also sell at Que feng but the hay there always quite yellow one maybe cos they display in the sun. whereas the pets kiosk one is inside mah i think the pets kiosk auntie always talk crap one.hahaha she doesnt dare to talk to me about anything much cos her daughter told her i know a lot about bunnies etc..tell her not to anyhow talk..haha for me....lets see what hay i have been feeding...hmm.. 1)Urbanpets oat hay.very high in fibre n generally a lot of bunnies take to it very well unlike the oxbow oat hay 2)oxbow timothy hay.can b rather inconsistent.sometimes very stalky. 3)anderson timothy hay.very leafy n generally smells good.cheap too 4) Apd second cut timmy hay.all bunnies love this but the protein is high n fibre is lower compared to other hays,so feed moderately n with another type of hay 5)hays i KAPO from the zoo.think all anderson hay. got alfafa, meadow n timothy hay.all VERY good.my bunnies love them n best of all its FREE! 6)oxford meadow hay.initially they seem to react well to it n then they dun touch it anymore...Biscuit used it to pee on 7) oxbow orchard grass.i like this cos its leafy n very green most of the time. but stocks are not in all the time. they are generally ok with it. i find that when i change the type of hay they eat often..they will eat more..guess they do get sick of they same type of hay everyday!

Where can I get the urbanpets oat hay Urbanpet's owner has relocated to USA recently. She no longer operates her business here. She might or might not export the oat hay to singapore again. So far, I find that Oat hay makes the bunnies poo real big. I guess it's due to its high fibre content among many other hays. I simply love feeding oat hay. My urbanpet oat hay has run out but recently i got some APD oat hay. It is the mini bale type and the stalks are slim, smell really fresh and nice. My bunnies simply love them. But this supplier will not bring in the APD 1st cut hay anymore.
