Hey, what brands of Chinchilla bathing sand u all using? I'm using CHARLIE BATHING SAND. I saw Bathing Dust in petshop that is more like powder than sand. When do I need to use it? Is it like when ur chin are very dirty.. then put that for the chin Hum... I think too powdery also not so good for me... coz... I was like watching MaoMao during the process of the bathing. Lata inhale all the dust in my lung ....

Oh, that brand is a bit coarse for chinchillas. They'll still use it of course, but if you want to get the dust deeper into their fur, it has to be the fine powder you saw. I'm using Sunseed Bathing Dust, but I also use Blue Cloud. I'm trying to finish my Sunseed cos someone gave me 1 whole big container. Both are fine powder.
Naturally, when you use the fine one, try not to stay too close when the chin is bathing. And you'll have to place the container in a place where it can be dirtied, cos the dust will definitely fly out. For me, I have to run away and sit far away once they start bathing, else I'll keep sneezing and coughing. But the chin's fur becomes very smooth and shiny when I use that. Compared to the coarse one, cos I used to use that one.
Oh yes, pls time your chinchilla's bath, try not to exceed 8 mins. I let mine bathe for 5 min only. I dun wan it to be covered in too much dust. And if I leave them inside for 10 min, they start po0ing inside. Also remember that bathing a chinchilla too often can result in dry skin.

Ic.. I'll get the dust type tmr and give MaoMao dust bathing once per week... meanwhile continue to use the coarse type. Actually me also using it (coarse sand) for my hammies... bcoz... the size is the same as the hamster bathing sand. Did u re-use the sand? I find abit wasted to throw it away. What I did was to pick up the poos by a spo0n (with holes that allow to filter the sand) and re-use it. Okie wan rite As long as I dun re-use too many times. On the average, MaoMao will take 5 minutes for his bathing process. After he has done... he will stare at me...kkk... like telling me "FINISHED LIAO"....so cute.

Yes, it's ok to reuse a chinchilla bath sand as long as you dun do it too many times. That's what the book advises too. Keke, Maomao likes to communicate with you. lolz

Umm, I read it in a chinchilla book that ya, you can use a sieve to clean the sand so it can be re-used. Must use a sieve with fine holes.

just wondering if chinchilla bath sand is the same as chinchilla dust For chinchillas, I understand that pple dun use sand lor, coz the texture is too coarse. Perhaps we can get clover to comment on this That type from what I know got many grades wan alot finer than sand, that when the wind blows, it will just be blown all over the place. Some pple even use Volcanic Ash (then again, it may be the same thing... me no chin expert ) Remembered that last time in the market got this product called Blue Cloud... anyone can comment on this

Umm, from what I know, there are several brands of chinchilla bathing sand and dust on the market. Last time, I used Supreme Charlie Chinchilla bathing sand, which is coarse. My chins liked using it, but it was not fine enough to penetrate deeply into their fur. Now, I'm using Sunseed Chinchilla bathing dust. It's very fine, made of fuller's earth. Someone gave me a big container of it, so I'm trying to finish it. This penetrates deeply and adds a silvery sheen to the coat after the bath. I'm actually using Blue Cloud chinchilla bathing dust, but someone gave me the Sunseed, so I use that first. Blue Cloud comes highly recommended by American chinchilla owners. I think it's not bad, personally, as fine as Sunseed. But I dunno what it's made of. I dunno if Blue Cloud is no longer in the market, I actually assumed it is. I still have 3/4 bucket of mine. (The Sunseed been using very long, my god, so hard to finish.) I've also read abt volcanic ash in chinchilla books, but no specific brands were mentioned, so I dunno if they are sold in singapore. Hmm, basically, I prefer the fine bathing dust, to the coarse bathing sand. I think the results are much better. Also, just as a small note, if you bathe your chin, dun comb or brush it after the bath. Must wait at least 2 days. Else the comb or brush will pull out lots of the chin's fur. It's much better to comb or brush just before the bath, so the dust will penetrate more deeply into the coat.

For coarse sand, I'm using CHARLIE($10+). Just bought the Dust from KAYTEE($11+). This is the only bathing dust I found in some petshops. The rest are coarse type. Funny leh... after the dust bathing.... I saw my MaoMao is sneezing Itz normal? abit worried Okie... noted... will wait for 2 days after the dust bath b4 I comb my MaoMao.
