It's possible that Maomao might not be used to the fine dust, if he has alwiz been using coarse sand for bathing. U can take it easy and go slow for him. Either that, or you can mix the fine dust and coarse sand for him to slowly get used to it. My chins also wipe their nose with their paws when they are bathing. That's another reason why I dun let them bathe more than 5 min. I dun wan them to breathe in so much dust.
I haven't used chin dust for hamsters before, so I'm not sure if it's a gd idea. But I do use the Supreme Charlie Chin sand for my fat tail gerbils. It's like their natural habitat cos they live in sand in the wild. I bought mine for $9 from Aquapets. I used to pay $11 when I got it from Pets Station.

hi,
Kaytee Dustbath is indeed fine and powdery. Everytime after bathe, he would make a big mess in his house and sometimes will tend to shake his powder off his body.
Sneezing after bathing is normal.

So far I only can purchase KayTee and Supreme Charlie Chin bathing sand. The powdery type is better (as clover recommend). I can see improvement of the chin's fur, softer and cleanner.
yaya... they will shake their body and all the dust & fur are flying over the place. Therefore keeping chin is not recommended for those who got breathing problems.

U mean volcanic ash as in the brand name or the type pf sand? Cos I know in some books, they talk abt using volcanic ash for bathing chins. I'm not sure if it's sold in sg, but then, I think that the fine powder bath is made to follow the properties of volcanic ash. Hence the light powder form.

using Sunseed Dust Bath is most approciate....Chins need fine dust to "clean" their thick coat of fur.
I bathe my Chins every twice a week...and usually i will throw away the dust every fornight. That means I will used the dust for 12 times. Used to have 3 Chins ( a family ); now only 2. I clean their cage twice a week too, after they have their routine bathe, hence i doubt they are that dirty. Advisable to discard the dust if u see "lumps" in it.

Sunseed is sold by Pet Kingdom and Carrefour. However, just to tell you all, that some chin owners in Sg dun support Sunseed. I'm not sure why though, but I dun think it's a very fantastic brand or anything. For chinchilla bath dust, most chin owners I know use Blue Cloud (this includes American & Singaporean owners).

There are many type of bathing dust and sand but the most popular brand would be Blue Cloud (Tub) and Kaytee brand (Transparent bottle). But i realised that most chin owners prefer Blue Cloud.
