I went there today..Think if no one opens the door at Pet Villa, can go thru Pet Movers. Got a few pple there working very hard there when i was there, all obviously animal lovers, but cos i was too shy didnt speak to them. there were a lot of mongrels and ALOT of cats, was quite impressed by how well maintained the place was,esp the cat section.. the dogs section was a bit dirty cos the dogs pee and sh*t everywhere in their enclosures, but the enclosures were quite spacious and there was alot of sunlight. Saw this particular dog, think it was a golden retriever or lab..towards the end of the dogs section.he was kinda bony and then i was quite shocked when he started gasping. Then this woman there told me he was de-barked. i was like HUH? and she explained to me that the previous owners removed the vocal cords of the dog. I looked at the dog trying to bark and all that came out was gasping breathy sounds. is it a common op? i mean vets will actually do this kinda op? i thot it looks d**n cruel.like he wants to bark but can't. so sad. the woman also informed me that on weekends they have volunteers coming in to help walk the dogs etc. i also wanna volunteer but the place is kinda out of the way loh.

There are also other animal organisations that do need help. Do you all know about:
Action for Singapore Dogs (ASD) K9love Cat Welfare Society (CWS) Metta Cattery
These are just some of them. There are I think a few more animal societies in Singapore. I'm just putting this here for info (cos my own classmates are clueless. None of them know any other shelter besides SPCA. I was hard pressed to do a talk about it, somemore for my project).
Ya I heard about de-barking. One of my friends wanted to do it cos he claimed that his toy dog is very yappy. I think it's a silky terrier or yorkshire. He finds the bark very shrieky like that. He asked the vet, then asked me if I have considered doing that for my dog, cos she barks too. I shouted at him no!
I'm afraid we had a mild argument after that and not on speaking terms. My emotions got the better of me. Cos he started describing the procedure to me, and I felt that's too much lor. If he wants a mute dog, he should have gotten a plastic toy dog for himself. Why the heck buy a real live dog, just to do something cruel to it? De-barking is totally unnecessary, I personally feel that if you think that your dog is barking too much, then it needs obedience training. Not an operation.
De-clawing cats is an extremely painful procedure for the animal. Cos even the bone is cut off, to totally remove the cat's claws. Cats are NOT happier to have their claws removed. I wld never do that to my cats. Can imagine the pain. And there is no real benefit to the cat itself at all.
